[Bonus chapter]8.103 Voting*
The girl flinched as though the loud voices would transform into a huge monster to devour her into pieces. 1
Lu Yizhou observed her body language closely. She was sitting in the corner of the room, at a table filled with a family of six: a father and mother, two small children and two elderlies. In a glance, she could be considered as part of the family. It was a very strategic place. Clearly, she was not an inexperienced player. Lu Yizhou had no idea whether the nervousness she showed was real or it was only an act, but one thing for sure… she couldn't be underestimated.
Logically, a seer would choose to join the guests camp. Who wanted to join a group of murderers after all? Even though werewolves' offensive capability was higher, they were the minority. It would be much easier to join the guests' camp and help them to drive the werewolves out. This way, they would not be burdened by guilt and conscience either.
Lu Yizhou could only think of two possibilities why a seer would join the werewolves camp. Either she was a fool or… she was confident that the werewolves would be the winner.
Or in other words, she was not alone in this quest.
However, under everyone's scrutiny, not even once had the young girl glanced at her teammate's direction. Weak people would tend to rely on the strong, both physically and mentally. If the girl was truly afraid, then she would subconsciously glanced at her teammate for mental support. That was how normal people's reaction was.
The girl might look frightened in one glance, but in fact, she had been firmly keeping her eyes down, staunchly portraying the image of someone who was forced to speak up because she could not bear it anymore.
Captain Rong walked to her. "Miss…" He said carefully. "You know who the culprit is? You have the evidence?"
Everyone's eyes were trained on both of them. Even Ji Yan was gawking at the girl as though not understanding why she would come forth at a time when the decision had almost been made. It was apparent that he still hadn't realized which camp the young girl was in. Only Olivia was frowning, her expression a bit ugly.
"Y–Yes!" She tremblingly pulled out her phone and showed it for Captain Rong to see.
Lu Yizhou's eyes widened in surprise. It was actually video evidence! How could she—
Because of the silence, the voice that rang out from the phone was loud and clear. "I'm sorry… I don't have any enmity with you but I have to do this to survive." After that came the terrifying sound of knife stabbing into flesh and the muffled grunt of pain. The culprit was not sure if the other would die and hence, he stabbed a few more times. Captain Rong's face was ugly when he looked at the video. It ended in less than one minute, and then there was a heavy silence.
Everyone could not believe their ears. Not because of the horrible sounds of killing that were transmitted, but the voice of the person that had spoken! That voice! They had heard that voice just now!
Almost subconsciously, their eyes snapped to the ghastly pale young man — the one who had righteously argued with Ji Yan on behalf of his girlfriend just a moment ago.
Disbelief was painted on their faces. This young man had blurted out one logical argument after another earlier, but in the end, he was the one who was bluffing?!
"I…" Intense panic showed on his face. "I didn't… It wasn't me!"
Ji Yan jumped at the chance to seal the nails on the coffin. "Not you? Everyone here has heard your voice and it's exactly the same as the sound from the phone! There's even a video! Captain Rong, do tell. Is the culprit this man or not?!"
There was no need for more words. Captain Rong's face was solemn as he waved his hand. "Catch him!" Two muscular ship crew barged in to apprehend the young man.
He had been so confident when he quarreled with Ji Yan, but in a blink of an eye, he was akin to a trapped young beast who was backed to the corner. His bloodshot eyes stared at the young girl. "No… It's not possible! How?!" How could she have such solid evidence in her hands?! That was not logical!
His teammate, the werewolf who had abstained, covered her mouth tightly as tears gushed out of her eyes. However, she was not given a chance to react when the crowd started to turn their attention to her and whispered, "The young man is the murderer. How about his girlfriend?"
The girl's face paled as she hastily denied. "No– I don't! I am not a murderer! It's only him!"
The young man had been struggling ever since, trying to break free of the two ship crews' grip. The more he squirmed about, the stronger they locked his movement. Eventually, the young man realized that his effort was futile. His deed had been recorded into the phone and shown to the captain. There was no way he could wash himself white anymore. However, upon hearing his teammate's last sentence, his eyes turned frighteningly cold as he sneered. "Don't lie! You're also a murderer! Listen to me, she is the same as I am!"
If he could not escape, then he could at least bring someone down with him! The so-called harmonious relationship shattered into pieces in the face of imminent peril.
"I am not!" The girl screamed, flustered. "He's lying! Please believe me! I–I didn't kill anyone!!!"
Captain Rong turned to the young girl who had provided the evidence. "Do you have any other videos? Does he have an accomplice?"
The young girl's strategy was to sacrifice one for the sake of many, how could she sell another person out? Ji Yan had planted the idea that 'people with diarrhea were suspicious'. If something happened to the young man's teammate, then the argument would return back to square one and all of her efforts would be futile. She shook her head like a rattle drum. "I–I don't have anything more…"
"Alright," Captain Rong turned away and decided. "Let's vote."
The young man's fate was sealed while his teammate's was unknown. Even as he was dragged away, he kept hollering. "Vote for her! She's the werewolf. I told you, she's also a werewolf!"
The girl buried her face into her hands and cried pitifully. It was unknown whether she lamented her teammate's fate or she was just terrified that everyone would vote for her.
The atmosphere turned solemn as soon as the young man disappeared from sight. Captain Rong spent some time collecting the evidence from the young girl before he started to lead the voting. Each person had to choose the one they were most suspicious of.
Ellen leaned toward him, whispering. "Who will you vote for?"
Lu Yizhou did not hide it from him as he showed Ellen his piece of paper. Ellen's eyes widened in surprise. "Him? You suspect it's him?"
"No," Lu Yizhou chuckled. "I just want to test something."
"Hmm…" Ellen nodded and scribbled on his paper.
Lu Yizhou had actually voted for Ji Yan. One of the simulator's ironclad rules prohibited him from killing the protagonists. He just wanted to experiment. If he voted for Ji Yan, would it count as killing him?
The result was out soon. As Lu Yizhou had expected, almost 80% of the people voted for the young man's teammate and the other 20% was for Ji Yan. The girl's figure shook badly as she saw the result. It was like she had gone crazy as she stood up and tugged on her hair. "Not me… I didn't kill anyone. I didn't! Why do you have to vote for me? Why?!"
Lu Yizhou's eyes narrowed as he stared at the mentally unstable girl. All of a sudden, an ominous premonition filled his heart and he forcibly tugged Ellen toward him and pressed down on his neck so that his whole body was hidden by the table. The series of movements was completed so fast that Ellen was unable to react. "What…"
As swift as lightning, Lu Yizhou threw himself over Ellen's body in time for an ear-splitting explosion to erupt nearby.
