8.109 Engine Room*
A full second passed when Ella froze at his question. And then, she let out a confused sound. "Werewolf? No, Ella is not."1
"Okay." Lu Yizhou trusted that a good girl like Ella would not lie and so he nodded.
This was already within his expectation. Ever since seeing Ellen's unusual reaction, Lu Yizhou already had an inkling as to what his role was. It was actually simple. If he was a werewolf, then he would not need to hide it because Lu Yizhou was a werewolf too. And if he was a seer, he could just jump into the werewolf camp. There was no need to hide it either.
That left only one possibility: they were not in the same camp.
Either Ellen was a guest or a doctor. Both of them were in the guest camp. Doctors were not allowed to heal werewolves so the ability was useless if applied on Lu Yizhou. Guest was even worse, they were on the bottom of the food chain and could only defend themselves when the werewolves came knocking on their door. From the very first day, Lu Yizhou had already treated Ellen like a guest so he was not too shocked even if Ellen decided to come clean with him. Sadly, Ellen was still not ready so he could only turn to the other personality.
This way… Ellen would not be angry right? He had said before that he didn't even notice that Ella was awake. That meant that whatever Lu Yizhou was going to ask Ella could only be known to her. However, just to be certain, Lu Yizhou put on a solemn look and told her, "The questions I'm asking you now are very important. This will be a secret only between the two of us so… will you be able to keep it?"
Ella's eyes lit up. "A secret between the two of us?" She giggled. "I can! I will not tell anyone, not even Sister Ellie!"
"Good girl." Lu Yizhou stroked her head gently, earning him another round of soft, melodious giggles. In the back of his mind, he distantly wondered when Ellie would wake up. Ellen was active during the day and slept at night, whereas Ella was asleep during the day and active at night. What about Ellie? Well, this was only the second day. Maybe Ellie needed more time to wake up after what she had gone through in the previous quest. Lu Yizhou no longer dwelled on that matter and asked Ella seriously, "Do you hear the mechanical voice in your mind telling you that you have a new role?"
Ella blinked. "Oh, there is! I got the 'doctor' role and just now, the voice woke me up and told me to choose someone to heal. What does it mean, big brother? Is there someone injured? What kind of role do you have? Are you a doctor too?"
Lu Yizhou remained calm amidst the barrage of questions. He answered them one by one. Ella was a very brilliant girl so there was no need to hide anything from her. Of course, Lu Yizhou was going to hide the killing part. There was no need to corrupt her innocence with this kind of thing. In a way, Lu Yizhou was relieved that Ella was not a werewolf otherwise… he would have to bring her along when he went out hunting. Lu Yizhou could do 666's part simply because they were sharing one body. As for the other, they had to 'hunt' the guests with their own hands.
Ella absorbed the explanation quickly and understanding dawned on her. "That sounds like hide-and-seek!" Her eyes twinkled. "According to big brother, there are a lot of werewolves who want to find me out there so I need to hide while big brother goes out and fights them? In any case, I am a doctor so I only need to heal myself?"
"That's right," Lu Yizhou continued seriously. "Outside, there will be a big brother who will protect you so there's no need to worry. I will return as soon as possible, okay?"
Ella patted her chest proudly. "Ella is already ten years old. Ella can sleep alone! Big brother doesn't need to worry about me!"
Lu Yizhou could not help but chuckle. There was nothing wrong with Ella's words but when it was paired with Ellen's face, somehow it became quite hilarious instead. "Good," he said and dropped a kiss on her forehead. "If you need something, just ask for the big brother outside, okay?"
"Okay!"
Lu Yizhou did not hesitate anymore. He got out of the bed, kissed Ella's forehead one more time as he tucked her in, and made his way out of the room. He opened the door to see Luan standing outside.
Both of them nodded to each other.
"I will leave Ella to you." Lu Yizhou directly said her name so that Luan would be prepared in case Ella came out looking for him. He saw brief surprise flashing through Luan's eyes before the man nodded.
"Be careful," he said with a deep and hoarse voice. When Lu Yizhou passed by him, Luan suddenly added, "She's a werewolf."
Lu Yizhou paused before he continued walking. The corner of his lips lifted.
[666: S–She? Is he talking about the girl who provided the video earlier?]
[Yes.] Lu Yizhou could not help but shake his head. [A fox pretending to be a tiger; it's a brilliant idea. With her coming out like that, everyone will automatically assume that she's a seer. The werewolves will not touch her for the time being and she only has to be on guard against the guest players. Most importantly, she can make use of her reputation to sway public opinion in every meeting after that.]
Even Lu Yizhou was fooled for the first time and thought that the girl was a seer. Turned out she was another werewolf. In this way, then everything made sense. The werewolf pretending to be a seer and showing herself in public was to save her fellow werewolves. Her act was bold and ruthless as she unhesitatingly sacrificed one for the sake of many.
If this was all the girl's plan, then Lu Yizhou really wanted to applaud her. She might look only around 15 or 16 years old, but her performance was on par with any other veteran.
[666: *shudder* Why is 666 suddenly relieved that Host is a simple man?]
[...]
Lu Yizhou declined to comment about that. Relying on the map 666 had provided, Lu Yizhou exited the labyrinth five minutes later and stood under the moonlight, inhaling the scent of the ocean.
He was certain he was not the only one who wanted to know what had happened to the two werewolves that were eliminated during the day. But at the same time, nobody could have comprehended the full shape of the labyrinth so soon. Therefore, Lu Yizhou needed to be fast before anyone caught up to him.
He easily blended into the dark shadows and made his way to the bottom deck, his footsteps were completely silent. He met a few ship crews along the way and easily avoided them. Judging by their behaviour, it seemed like they had not realized that the passenger's quarter had turned into a massive labyrinth, and Lu Yizhou doubted if they would ever realize it too. After all, the labyrinth had been especially designed to deter the werewolves' mission. It was fortunate that Lu Yizhou had 666 to draw the blueprints and spared him a great headache from having to explore the complex labyrinth by himself.
Lu Yizhou stuck himself to the wall and popped his head out to observe the path leading to the engine room. The narrow corridor was illuminated brightly and the width was only enough for one person to go through. After making sure that nobody was around, Lu Yizhou rushed forward, bypassed a few doors until he got to the door labeled 'Engine'.
Amidst the roaring machines, there were sounds of conversation. He plastered his ear to the door and listened closely. At least two people were inside.
Lu Yizhou narrowed his eyes in contemplation. As he expected, the engine room would be one of the most heavily guarded areas on the ship. It would be too risky for him to charge ahead. Sure, it was not a problem to take care of the crews but Lu Yizhou suspected that they would have some kind of signal to alarm the others. By then, Lu Yizhou would be trapped in this narrow corridor with no way out.
Tonight, he was only here to investigate. It was better if he did not create any commotions.
Lu Yizhou reached inside his pocket and pulled out an ordinary silver coin. After that, he threw it in another direction. The coin made a sharp, crisp sound when it landed on the ground, immediately alerting crews inside. "Who's that?!" Footsteps approached and the heavy door swung open.
Two crews crowded in the narrow corridor and looked around warily. However, they could not find anyone around.
"Do you hear that?"
"...Yes."
"Go and check it out!"
One of the crews walked out with a grumble while the other stayed on the doorway, peeking out curiously.
Never could they have foreseen that above their head, a full-pledge adult male was suspending himself on the ceiling, his eyes cold and determined. Taking advantage of the inattentive crew, Lu Yizhou grabbed onto the top frame of the door and swung himself inside. He landed with a soundless thump inside the compartment. His body moved so agilely it was hard to believe how big he actually was.
By the time the crew returned from outside with a confused look, Lu Yizhou already draped himself with 'Invisibility Cloak' and successfully infiltrated into the engine room. Evading the guards and slipping in like this was a piece of cake to Lu Yizhou, and he would say that everything was smooth sailing… if not for 666's incessant cheers in his mind.
[666: Oh my Admin God, oh my Admin God, this is more exciting than the Hongkong action movie 666 has watched before! Host is so 666!]
The corner of his lips twitched. [...Shut up.]
