9.4 Zombies!!!
1Ripples formed on Lu Yizhou's heart at his words. He had not thought about the real world that much because there was nothing left for him in there. He had left behind his name, his legacy and his history, letting them be covered in dust and forgotten along with the passage of time.
The reason why he came all the way to this place where human populations were sparse was only one;
He had wanted to die since early on.
However, his plan ended up being disrupted by the presence of the stray kitten he had accidentally picked up. That kitten was so frail and thin that it would definitely die if it were to be left alone. Later, Lu Yizhou focused his attention on treating it, intending to let it go after it had recovered. Who could have guessed that the feline would leisurely make its nest in his house? In the end, the plan was getting delayed, again and again, until months later when the cat finally died of sickness.
A week after Lu Yizhou buried its body outside his house, he walked deep into the wintry forest, bearing through the chill and wind gale without looking back.
Alone.
Now with Dr. Feng's one sentence, he had given Lu Yizhou a reason to return to that monochrome world, an assurance that he would not be alone anymore, that his world would not only contain the biting chill of winter…
The more Lu Yizhou thought about it, the more dazed he was. It was too beautiful, too perfect to come true. "Mn…" he answered with a raspy voice, his vocal cord trembling slightly. "It will be so good. Very, very good."
Zeke took one look at him and reached out to hug him. Lu Yizhou immediately went along and let himself be cocooned by the tenderness of his lover's body, his eyes falling shut. Zeke's fingers carded through his hair and his voice came out choked, "I think… we have a lot to talk about. Our past, present and future. But what do you think if we do it in the real world? I want to wake up and meet you. I want to introduce myself all over again…"
With every sentence uttered from Zeke's mouth, Lu Yizhou nodded again and again. The mere thought of waking up to his lover every single day was enough to flood Lu Yizhou with warmth. Even if this was all the world could give him for every sin he had committed, he was already very satisfied. He lifted his arms to hug Zeke until it was unclear who was clinging to whom.
"Mn… we will do it after we wake up." Lu Yizhou let out a deep chuckle. "By then, I will come up to you and ask, 'hello, may I buy you a cup of coffee?'"
Zeke continued seamlessly, "Then I will answer 'sure, if you let me pay for it again next time.'"
Both of them laughed at the same time, filling the air with silly conversation of what they would do if they were to meet again in the real world.
It was decided then. They would meet with their real identity, without any feign or disguise, without any haste or caution, after they woke up; just two people who were interested in each other.
Lu Yizhou was energized all over again and could tackle even fifty more simulations. However, he still asked the other, "Will you come with me?" Dr. Feng had given him the green light regarding the bug so Lu Yizhou was not too worried anymore. To have them enter a new world together, would it not be like a vacation?
Alas, to his surprise, Zeke shook his head gently. "I won't. Don't give me such a look," he chuckled, although Lu Yizhou had no idea what kind of look he was showing. Zeke continued patiently, "You should know that… every simulation has its own script to follow. If I carelessly charge ahead, then I will end up creating more bugs. After all, even if the person in that simulator is essentially me, the decision we will make in various situations will differ. It will be much safer if I stay here."
Zeke gave him a dazzling smile. "Go. I will wait for you here."
"Okay." Lu Yizhou understood his concerns. He leaned in to plant a kiss on Zeke's lips. "Then I will return as soon as possible."
"Don't be in such a haste." Zeke's tone took a turn to teasing. "You should spend some more time with the other me. I think it's very marvelous. It's just like dating a different person each time, don't you think so?" He tapped his chin, wondering. "Now that I think about it, the one who loses out the most should be me. You have been with so many versions of me but I am only stuck with this version of you." After throwing that heartless sentence, he even dared to pinch Lu Yizhou's cheek with a mischievous look!
"Pfft…" Zeke burst out laughing. "Look at how dark your face has become!"
Lu Yizhou swatted his misbehaving paw away and deadpanned, "I deeply apologize if Your Highness is not satisfied with this boring ol' me."
"No, no, no," Zeke hastily changed his words to amend his mistake. "I am satisfied, very satisfied! There are no complaints at all!"
They fooled around for some more time before Lu Yizhou was ready to leave. Dressed in the oversize shirt that hung down one of his shoulders, Zeke snuggled in his bed and waved cheerfully, "Safe journey~"
Lu Yizhou was rendered speechless by this idle guy who was adamant on making his lover 'date' another guy, even though it was still another version of him. Alas, before he could put some sense into Zeke, a familiar vertigo struck his head and the world spun in front of his eyes.
The last thing he saw was the sparkles within the gold hue of Zeke's eyes as well as his soft laughter that lingered in his ears. Lu Yizhou's body relaxed and he let himself be transported into yet another world.
…Alas, it was a grave mistake for him to let his guard down.
Because even before he could open his eyes, a sharp pain pierced through his arms and loud growls resounded close to his ears. Lu Yizhou snapped his eyes open at the same time with his reflex kicking in. He stretched out his leg to kick the creature away only to be shocked when he found out that it was a human!
Wait, no, it could not even be considered as a human. Lu Yizhou was sure that his kick was strong enough to break a few ribs and knock the other unconscious but let alone fainting, that person even scrambled to his feet as though he knew no pain! And his face… his entire face was bloodied and his eyes were turbid white. He bared his teeth at Lu Yizhou and charged ahead again.
Fuck!
Was this not a zombie?!
And he had been fucking bitten on his arm! The bite wound was so deep and garrish that it almost showed white bones. Lu Yizhou had not even recovered from the shock of being bitten by a zombie when he heard another horde of footsteps and animalistic growls behind him. He turned around and — fuck, there was another wave of zombie coming his way!
Lu Yizhou, who prided himself to be calm and collected no matter what kind of peril he was in, burst out into a string of foul curses when he discovered that he was trapped in a narrow corridor and besieged by an army of the undead.
[What the fuck, 666?!]
[666: A–A–AHHH, ZOMBIESSS!!!!]
Punch one and two more would replace the empty spot, kick two and three more would emerge. It was practically endless! Not to mention that the original body had already sustained quite a lot of injuries, making it more difficult for him to defend himself.
Unfortunately, Lu Yizhou only had two arms and two legs; no matter how exceptional his fighting ability was, he was quickly overwhelmed by the wave of zombies who acted like rabid dogs. More and more bites landed on his body, his shoulders, his torso, his legs, so many that he could not take count anymore.
Dizziness drilled into his head and numbness spread from where the bite marks were. It did not take long for his wounded body to be stripped out of strength.
Almost as if the zombies had been waiting for this moment, they instantly pounced forward, tackled Lu Yizhou to the ground and stacked themselves atop of him one after another like rows of collapsing dominos. Their bloodied and maniacal faces flashed in front of his eyes and his ears were filled with the sound of flesh tearing and delighted growls. The visual effect was so shocking that Lu Yizhou's heart almost stopped beating.
His breath grew warmer and warmer as the zombies devoured his flesh ravenously and his silver eyes turned hazy, layered with a sheen of turbidity similar to the creatures around him.
Fuck… he was turning into a zombie…
That was the last thought Lu Yizhou had before he lost consciousness.
