9.8 Zombie Minions

Lu Yizhou could guess on his pinky that the protagonist army commander, Yang Tengfei, must be in that helicopter!2

Fortunately, he arrived when the original plot had not started yet. Judging from the timeline, Yang Tengfei must be here to contact Zhao Bolin on behalf of the government… Just as Lu Yizhou was thinking about it, a huge explosion suddenly resounded in the far distance, causing the ground under his feet to shudder from the aftermath. Thanks to his supervision, Lu Yizhou could see that the helicopter was actually dropping mini bombs on the… pedestrian street outside the university? For what??

Even if it was to get rid of the zombies, were they not afraid to implicate innocent citizens who were still hiding somewhere around?

[666: H–Host, I think you need to see this!]

[What is it?]

In the next second, a floating screen appeared in front of his eyes. 666 had forcibly activated the CCTVs on the street and controlled them to show the situation outside, giving him a bird's eye view of the city!

Lu Yizhou's scalp turned numb when he saw the scene in front of him. Hundreds — no, thousands of zombies swarmed the street like a mob of trained undead. Not only did they come out from narrow alleys, they also broke through the glass wall of high buildings and performed free fall akin to dumplings falling into soup.

Mini bombs fell one after another and landed amid the horde, causing broken limbs and organs to scatter. Alas, the zombies were relentless. New waves appeared to replace the fallen and they marched uniformly forward with a single dedication. The ones closest to the university had even started to climb the gate and wall, trying to break their way inside.

Now Lu Yizhou understood why the army was dropping bombs. There was no better time than now to dispose of the zombies, especially when they were gathering in one place. But… what could have compelled the zombies to do so?

[Those zombies are heading… here?]

[666: Y–Yes, that's what 666 is trying to tell you! QAQ There are still more CCTVs 666 can't connect to but one thing for sure is, they are all coming straight here, Host!!]

Lu Yizhou fell into contemplation. Then recalling something, he numbly turned around to see the zombies who were keeping a distance from him. Piecing this bizarre behaviour to the zombies outside the university, an absurd speculation popped up in his mind. By any chance… they couldn't be here for him right?

Lu Yizhou stiffly raised his hand and crooked a finger toward the nearest zombie. The male student in dyed red hair with blood all over his clothes froze for a split second and then… he started to move forward with jerky movements and stopped beside Lu Yizhou, especially obedient and meek.

Lu Yizhou: "..."

[666: …]

[666: …Host, what have you done?]

Lu Yizhou pinched his brows, headache throbbing on his temple. Don't ask him, he also did not have the slightest idea as to what was going on here. 666 voiced the doubt in his heart out loud.

[666: Host… have you become the zombie king?]

Lu Yizhou startled. Zombie king…? The pinnacle of all zombies, the one who could summon and control the others?? There was no mention of a zombie king in the original plot so how could he suddenly become a zombie king?! However, was there any other explanation? He was bitten by a zombie and infected by the virus; he should have been zombified by now yet as it turned out, the zombies were actually terrified of him and obeyed his command…

Wait– wasn't there a more effective way to confirm his doubts?

Lu Yizhou shifted his gaze to the floating screen and closed his eyes. Like this, he could actually sense numerous invisible threads in the air which connected him to the zombies. He had a hunch that… these threads were free for him to manipulate. He tried to connect his brainwave to the threads and gave a stern order. [Stop where you are!]

666's surprised cry echoed in his ear before he could even open his eyes.

[666: Oh my Admin God, it works! Holy shit, Host, you have just become a zombie king! That's so 666!]

Lu Yizhou opened his eyes and true to 666's words, all of the zombies actually stopped in their tracks as though they had turned into a statue! This time, he tried to give another order. [...Raise your right hand.]

Then a funny yet shocking sight happened. All of the zombies raised their right hand in unison, even the ones who lost their right hands obediently raised their stump limbs instead. Their movement was so neat that they seemed to be copied from one source.

Lu Yizhou pinched his brows with a helpless look. Very good, not only had he transformed into a zombie, somehow he had also managed to become their king. Fortunately, Lu Yizhou's mental fortitude was especially strong after going through the previous simulations. He quickly regained his bearings and adapted to his new identity.

Just in time, 666 finally found out his identity in this world.

The original body was named Ru Jinke, a third year student majoring in literature. Coincidentally, he was in the fifth floor auditorium when the disaster struck. He had a thin and slender frame, high bridge nose and clear eyes that made him look like an elegant scholar. However, Ru Jinke's physical capability was especially weak. He had intended to escape to the rooftop at first and hide there until reinforcement arrived. Alas, he had not even taken more than twenty steps when the zombies caught up to him…

In the original plot, there was this one passage. [...The entire university was down in less than three days' time. Li Zhu could only hide in the Biology Department Building with his fellow students and professors. There was nowhere they could go because 80% of the areas in the university had been occupied by zombies…]

80% of the area in the university it was talking about included the Literature Department Building Ru Jinke was in. Or in other words, Lu Yizhou's character was so insignificant that he was not worth to be mentioned even in one full sentence…

[666: *cough* Don't be dejected, Host! At least, you entered Ru Jinke's body before he could turn into an ordinary zombie so all is well!]

All is well, my ass, Lu Yizhou cursed inwardly. Well, being a zombie king had its own perks. Lu Yizhou would not look a gift horse in the mouth now that the opportunity had presented itself to him.

Once again, he connected his brainwave to the zombies outside and ordered. [Stall that green helicopter for me. Don't ever let it enter the university. Of course… feel free to feast on them.]

The zombies howled in delight and started to chase after the helicopter. They climbed the building, hands outstretched as they tried to drag the helicopter down, shocking the soldiers inside out of their wits. The pilot hastily maneuvered the helicopter higher to avoid those bloody hands.

"C–Commander, they suddenly become aggressive!"

"We have received a new report from the basecamp! The original direction has changed and… and they seem to be targeting us!"

Colors drained from their faces as they looked around in panic. Had the Zombie King caught up to them and hid somewhere near?!

Commander Yang Tengfei had a grim look on his face. His sharp eyes scanned the surroundings. Alas, the perimeter was so chaotic that it was no longer possible for him to identify the Zombie King who was most likely hiding within.

The Zombie King was in the dark while they were exposed to the light. Not only that, they also did not have a clear idea about the king's capability. The outlook did not look good at all. If they were rash, it was possible for their entire team to be wiped out!

"We have alerted the enemy," the commander said with a heavy voice. "It seems like the Zombie King retains their intelligence even after being infected by the virus. We can't underestimate them at all."

An intelligent undead? The soldiers glanced at each other in apprehension. Could the situation get any worse?!

"Retreat!" Commander Yang made a firm decision. "We will discuss it with the government and form another plan to tackle this thing. But first thing first, we have to shake these zombies off our trail!"

"Yes sir!!"

The helicopter that was originally heading to F University started to turn back and disappear into the horizon with the zombies chasing behind them like ants. The citizens, who were still hiding in their own houses, trembled when they looked at this horrifying scene.

Back in F University, the corner of Lu Yizhou's lips curled as he succeeded in driving the two protagonists further from each other. It would be better if they did not meet at all, even though he knew that there was no way the world would allow him to do so. Both of them had their own protagonist halo and it was only a matter of time until they had their first encounter.

At least, it would not be now.

Lu Yizhou turned away from the window, satisfied with his zombie minions' efficiency. He even patted the red-haired zombie's shoulder beside him in a good mood, making the other so scared that he let out distressed squeaks with thick mucus running down his face.

Lu Yizhou walked down the corridor at a leisurely pace while all the zombies gave way to him.

Now… how should he send himself on a silver platter to his lover?
