9.12. How Cute...

A delightful grin spread across Lu Yizhou's face at his lover's speechless look. Pardon him but… Zhao Bolin was just so adorable that Lu Yizhou could not help but tease him!  0

In spite of that, he should keep it in mind that their status was one of a student and professor now. It was not good to act so familiarly lest Zhao Bolin would get angry and chase him out.

Just looking at the bristling leopard in front of him was enough for Lu Yizhou to know that Zhao Bolin was tethering on the edge of rage. Hence, he curbed all urge to continue the playful banter and assumed a serious look. [Apologies, professor.] He tried to put on an apologetic smile to show that he was harmless. [I am just feeling a bit… jittery.]

Zhao Bolin soon calmed down and gave him a skeptical look but in the end, he accepted the answer begrudgingly. "Well, it's reasonable. After all, you have just fought so many zombies… Anyway, what's the situation there? How come you're alone? What about your friends and professors? Why didn't they come with you?"

A barrage of questions rushed out of his mouth in less than five seconds. Lu Yizhou answered them patiently. [I don't know. I was having a class in the auditorium when the zombies came. Everyone around me is turned. I saw from the window that there's someone here, so I can only come here.]

Zhao Bolin hummed with a grave look. "It's good that you managed to escape."

Lu Yizhou waited until Zhao Bolin emerged from whatever thought he was having inside his head before he continued, [But there's something I must say, though…]

The corner of Zhao Bolin's eye twitched. "...What is it?"

Lu Yizhou was amused by the doubtful look on his face. Why did he look at Lu Yizhou like that? Was he that untrustworthy? What had he done to make Zhao Bolin distrust him so? Lu Yizhou put on a helpless look. [The fact that you have saved my life is true. It's only right if I return the courtesy, isn't it? One piece of advice from me, Professor… you should be careful of the people around you.]

The original plot alternated between the two protagonists' point of view. It started from Commander Yang's perspective which introduced the background of the disaster and how it came to be. After that, he received the order from the government to fetch Zhao Bolin over and that's how he met the other protagonist, Li Zhu. However, Lu Yizhou clearly recalled that there were only eight people left in the area, four of whom became members of Zhao Bolin's research team and the other three were sent to the military basecamp.

Lu Yizhou had counted the number of people here. Excluding Zhao Bolin and Li Zhu, there were still thirteen people left. That meant something would definitely happen to the other seven. It's just he had no idea what kind of accident would happen midway…

Zhao Bolin had a strange expression on his face. "What do you mean by the people around me?"

Lu Yizhou shrugged lightly. [Human's heart is a treacherous thing, Professor.] He had seen the kind of look Professor Lou had when he looked at Zhao Bolin. Lu Yizhou was going to bet on his pinky toe that a person like that must be up to no good.

A scoff escaped Zhao Bolin's lips. He tilted his chin haughtily, provoking. "Excuse me, Student Lu. Please remind me again how long have you been here? If I am going to doubt anyone, then I should doubt you instead. All of the people outside are ones I interact with regularly. Logic notwithstanding, why should I trust you?"

A helpless look flashed through Lu Yizhou's eyes. Zhao Bolin's words made actual sense. With how cautious he was, what kind of reason did he have to trust Lu Yizhou instead of his colleagues and students? Lu Yizhou understood his lover very well and hence, he did not insist on the matter anymore. He merely gave the man a slight smile. [Just keep my words in mind.]

Zhao Bolin looked even more incredulous at that. However, he did not say anything more. Turning around, he walked to the window and drew the curtain, letting the sunshine fill the entire room with light. Lu Yizhou's eyes actually worked better at night but he still had not adjusted to a zombie's night vision; it was like a thin layer of crimson had been added to the corner of his eyes, making everything seem to be shrouded in a haze. Now, he finally saw the interior of the room clearly.

Rather than a laboratory, it should be Zhao Bolin's private office instead. There was only a large mahogany table and swivel chair, a few metal trolleys filled with experimental tools and an empty space which should have been occupied by couches. Most likely, the couches had been moved outside to accommodate the students. The room looked bare and desolate. There was a metal door on the side which was connected to the so-called private laboratory.

Zhao Bolin strode to his table and bent down to rummage through the drawers. "Wait a moment. I seem to have stored a few spare clothes here. Our sizes are similar so my clothes should fit you just fine. You should burn that bloodied shirt, it's disgusting."

Lu Yizhou's gaze followed his figure intently. With this kind of posture, Zhao Bolin's long hair slid down his shoulders, and the white coat highlighted the dip of his spine and the supple curve of his ass. The light spilling from the glass window made his skin even more dazzling. Lu Yizhou could hear his heartbeat loud and clear, the warm breath he exhaled, the rush of blood under his veins and—

[666: A–A–AH HOST YOUR EYES, YOUR EYES!!!]

"Here it is!" Zhao Bolin finally pulled out a loose shirt from one of his drawers. "Don't be picky and—" He paused when he saw Lu Yizhou pinching his brows with a pained look on his face. Was it only his imagination or Student Lu's complexion became even more terrible? Zhao Bolin's heart gave a violent lurch and before he knew it, he rushed forward anxiously. "What's wrong? Are you—"

Lu Yizhou raised a hand to prevent him from coming closer. For God's sake… he had truly underestimated a zombie's appetite. He could not believe that for a split second… he had really wanted to devour Zhao Bolin in a literal sense!

This was a totally different challenge from when he was the Vampire King Raphael. Back then, he was only thirsty for a few drops of blood but this time, what he wanted was really… raw flesh! If he let his guard down, it was possible that he might pounce on Zhao Bolin right here and now! The mere thought of harming his lover sent shivers down his spine and sobered up his ravenous mind.

[How is it?]

[666: G–Good, all good! Phew, that was close!]

Lu Yizhou finally opened his eyes to see Zhao Bolin's anxious visage. Even toward a stranger, he was still so kind and considerate. Exactly how blind Li Zhu and the others were to think that he would want to keep the antidote for himself?

"What's wrong?" Zhao Bolin was distressed to the point of anger. "If you don't tell me, then I… I will feed you to the zombies!"

Lu Yizhou could not help it. His eyes crinkled in mirth and he let out a soundless laugh. What kind of threat was it? Oh, if only Zhao Bolin knew that the ones who would be terrified were the zombies themselves…

Zhao Bolin's face flushed in the mixture of anger and mortification. He also knew what he said was totally unreasonable but he just could not help it! He had no idea why he was so restless when he saw Student Lu struggling with pain. He just… He just wanted to force the truth out of the other's mouth!

Alas… Student Lu was unable to speak; there was no way Zhao Bolin could know what kind of voice this person had in this lifetime…

As soon as the thought dawned on him, an unprecedented sense of loss slipped into the corner of his heart. Startled, Zhao Bolin hastily shook his head to clear his mind. What kind of thought was it?! He was a professor and… and Lu Yizhou was a student! Even though he was not Zhao Bolin's student, he was still a student nonetheless! How could he think of Student Lu in such an inappropriate way?!

"Well?" Zhao Bolin urged.

[I'm fine.] Lu Yizhou moved his fingers, his silver eyes immensely gentle as they fell on the man in front of him. Seized by a sudden force of yearning, Lu Yizhou reached out to trail his fingertips along Zhao Bolin's beautifully flushed cheeks.

"How cute…" his lips moved to form the words before he could control it.
