9.13 Vile Plans
Bang!2
Everyone's head swished toward the direction of the sound and was shocked to find Professor Zhao storming out of the laboratory with a furious look on his face. They had known Professor Zhao for years but never before had they seen him so emotional. In their mind, aside from being obsessed with his research, Professor Zhao was a very easy-going teacher; he never got angry nor had he ever been unreasonable when dealing with rebellious students…
Li Zhu stepped forward and glanced at the closed door hesitantly. "P–Professor Zhao, is there something wrong with him?"
The others gasped in dread. "Goddamnit, is he really infected?!"
"W–What should we do?!"
Professor Lou shouted the loudest, "I have told you that something is wrong with that student but you guys didn't listen to me! See what happens now?!"
Facing the flustered students, Zhao Bolin finally returned to his senses. "No, don't worry, nothing is wrong with him," he reassured tiredly with a wave of his hand. "He's clear. From now on, Student Lu Yizhou will join our group. Nobody should doubt him anymore, okay?"
Just in time, the door behind him slid open and Lu Yizhou sauntered out clad in Zhao Bolin's loose sweater. Despite Lu Yizhou being taller by half a head, their physiques were really similar and hence, the sweater fit him very well. Student Lu who was not covered in blood and grime looked unexpectedly suave.
Nonetheless, Zhao Bolin was not in the mood to appreciate the refreshing sight. As soon as he saw Lu Yizhou's face, he was once again reminded of what the other had just said.
He ground his molars and gritted out, this time unable to keep the smile on his face, "Student Lu, welcome to the group. Li Zhu will introduce you to others so you should familiarize yourself with them first. I am tired." Saying that, he turned to the couch where he had laid on before Lu Yizhou arrived. "I will continue my nap. Please wake me up in an hour."
He simply could not believe this student's audacity! Zhao Bolin fumed as he lay down on the couch. How dare he say… say something like that to a professor?! Cute? From which angle did his broken eyes find that Zhao Bolin was cute?!
It's not like he was pessimistic, but Zhao Bolin knew himself pretty well. The group of people who got along with him were either students who needed his guidance or fellow researchers who were interested in his experiments. Or in other words, the number of friends he had in his life amounted to zero.
The majority of it could be attributed to Professor Zhao's fierce, standoffish and despicable personality. He was fully aware of how people talked behind his back, but he had no intention of changing himself. Zhao Bolin was comfortable with himself nor did he need any friend for validation.
Until… Until he met this audacious student! The more Zhao Bolin thought about it, the angrier he was. See, his prediction had come true! Lu Yizhou had just joined the group for less than half an hour but he was already proficient in pushing every single one of Zhao Bolin's buttons, making him act so unlike himself!
Zhao Bolin seethed inwardly as he listened to Li Zhu's voice introducing the students one by one to Lu Yizhou. Then he gingerly pressed the back of his palm to his cheek. Goodness… how could it feel so hot…
"How did you make Professor Zhao angry?" Lu Yizhou withdrew his gaze from Zhao Bolin's figure to Li Zhu who was whispering to him. Around him, a few students had a curious look on his face as well, evidently their gossip radar was activated at a time like this.
Lu Yizhou could only give a helpless shrug, indicating that he had no clear idea either. Well, to be honest, he kinda knew the reason why. Zhao Bolin was such a dignified, proud and haughty person. Based on the original plot, his IQ might be exceptional but the same could not be said to his EQ. Lu Yizhou had only teased him a bit and he already stormed off in anger.
That behavior of his, was it embarassed to the point of humiliation? Alas, it was not like Lu Yizhou could confront Professor Zhao head on unless he wanted to be fed to the zombies…
"Really?" Li Zhu had an amused smile on his face. "That's a great feat, you know. Nobody has ever made Professor Zhao so livid before." Gone was his vigilance earlier. Without Commander Yang Tengfei's bad influence, he actually idolized his teacher quite a lot. If Zhao Bolin said that there was no problem with Lu Yizhou, then it must be true.
"Yeah, yeah that's right," the other students echoed him. "Gosh, that's such a huge surprise. I didn't expect to see Professor Zhao get angry one day, and it was even because of someone new!"
The atmosphere among these few students was surprisingly harmonious. They could still joke around at a time like this, proving that they were still optimistic that the situation would gradually get better. Or perhaps… were university students just this cheerful? Lu Yizhou had no idea. He had never gone through a proper education system before.
The students did not ask why Lu Yizhou couldn't speak and they warm-heartedly tried to include Lu Yizhou into their conversation. Taking advantage of the situation, Lu Yizhou discreetly observed the group.
Now that the situation had calmed down, it was apparent that the students were separated into two groups. Three of them seemed to be closer to Professor Lou as they huddled together in another corner whereas the remaining ten sat in a huge circle around Lu Yizhou.
Lu Yizhou pretended to listen to what the students around him were saying but in fact, he was using his enhanced hearing to eavesdrop on the other group.
"So… what do you say?" It was Professor Lou's voice.
"P–Professor, it's not too good, is it? The food reserve belongs to Professor Zhao and there are only a few packages of bread—"
"Exactly! There are only a few packages of bread left! Just count how many people we have here. Can we survive only with that until reinforcement arrives? No, we can't! Trust me, it's not safe here. We have too many people and sooner or later, the zombies will break in. When that time comes, it will be too late for regret! Do you want to become a zombie, huh?!"
"Then… Then what should we do?"
Oh?
He just wanted to eavesdrop casually but to his surprise, he ended up catching onto the tail of the rat. The corner of Lu Yizhou's lips curled into a cold smile as he listened to the plan Professor Lou laid out. So this was how the originally fifteen people ended up being reduced into eight…
From the original plot, Lu Yizhou already knew that Zhao Bolin's group would survive even without him; but now that he found out about Professor Lou's vile plan, how could he sit still and watch?
