9.18 Really Doomed

Zombies fell one after another with every step Lu Yizhou took. The chaotic sounds were actually caused by Lu Yizhou ordering them to attack each other and play dead thereafter. On the other hand, the King himself was so leisurely he might as well be yawning in boredom. Alas, he did not expect that the laboratory door would slam open in the next moment!  0

Just from the heartbeat, the rapid breathing and footsteps alone, he already knew who that person was.

Startled, Lu Yizhou let go of Professor Lou's corpse and sent an urgent order to the zombie minions. [Quick, attack me! If you dare to touch that person, I will make you regret ever becoming a zombie!]

The zombies showed a sluggish look for a second. However, due to the formidable pressure from the King, they had to suppress their horror and clumsily stretched their hands out toward Lu Yizhou. Other monarchs would be afraid of their people's rebellion but their monarch was actually inciting them to do it themselves!

Did zombies not have any rights to live peacefully?!

Lu Yizhou could sense the zombies' lament and sorrow undulating toward him in waves. However, he pretended not to notice it and put on a frowning look as he started to beat up his minions.

Hence, that was the scene Zhao Bolin saw when he rounded the corner.

The surroundings were utterly dark save from the dim street lamps that spilled in from the windows. Yet at the moment, Zhao Bolin's gaze went through the commotion to land on the man in the middle. Besieged by countless undead whose body was bloodied and face covered in thick mucus, Lu Yizhou was protecting the bread in one arm and could only use the other to defend himself. Despite that, his movement was sharp and neat, not even a hint of fluster could be detected from his furrowed brow as he defeated one zombie after another. A bright halo seemed to radiate off him, so dazzling that Zhao Bolin's breath hitched on his throat. At that moment, he felt as though he had seen an angel descending into Hell, untainted by the filth and sin around.

Oh, Zhao Bolin thought. I'm really doomed…

He stood there in daze for a few seconds until a zombie suddenly rushed out fiercely to pounce on Lu Yizhou, its claw was only less than an inch away from Lu Yizhou's face…

Zhao Bolin's face paled and he shouted as his feet carried him forward. "Watch out!!"

The distinguished Professor Zhao was a researcher who locked himself all day long in the laboratory. When had he ever run this fast? The distance between them was only less than twenty meters yet somehow, Zhao Bolin's chest was burning and his heart was beating so fast that it almost jumped out of his throat.

He did not even care for the zombies around him as he pushed his way forward like an unstoppable bulldozer. Fortunately, luck seemed to side with Zhao Bolin at that moment because the zombies did not notice him and targeted Lu Yizhou alone.

Just like a few minutes ago, their gaze collided in midair and Zhao Bolin saw anger and helplessness appear between Lu Yizhou's brows. Zhao Bolin intended to help Lu Yizhou fight the zombies, after all two people were better than one; alas, he had just arrived in front of Lu Yizhou when his arm was grasped by a strong yet gentle grip. The inertia caused him to lose balance. Zhao Bolin stumbled into Lu Yizhou's arms, causing the latter to let go of the bread he had been securing along the way.

Pressed against Student Lu's broad chest, the genius Professor Zhao's mind went blank for a second. When he came to his senses, all of the zombies were already defeated, laying around their feet like a scene straight out of a horror movie.

If Zhao Bolin's brain was online at that moment, he would definitely realize that something was off. Zombies were undead creatures who would not even blink when their limbs were broken. How could Student Lu knock them unconscious so easily? Alas, Professor Zhao's head was muddled by the clean and fresh fragrance emanating from Student Lu's body that he could not afford to think of anything more…

Silence reigned between them and all Zhao Bolin could hear was his own heartbeat and rapid breathing. Pulling himself away, he grabbed Lu Yizhou's arms and scanned him up and down in panic. He didn't even realize how hard he was trembling. "Are… Are you okay? Did the zombie get you? You're—"

A finger was put to his lips, cutting Professor Zhao off sentence. He raised his head to see Lu Yizhou's gentle eyes.

[I'm okay.] Lu Yizhou's hands moved. He paused for a second then let out a helpless sigh. [What are you running out for? Don't you know how dangerous—]

Zhao Bolin could not wait for him to finish his words. Anger rushed to his head and the rims of his eyes reddened. This was the first time Zhao Bolin had ever experienced such a strong emotional rollercoaster. It wrecked him from within and messed with his mind so much that he could not think straight. His mind kept replaying the scene of the zombie who almost bit Lu Yizhou's neck just now. "I am the one who should be asking you that!" All of the fury, grievance and fear within him came tumbling out in a torrent of words, so intense that his eyes stung with tears. "Why the hell are you coming back?! There are so many zombies, what if… what if one of them got you?!"

The more Zhao Bolin thought about it, the more furious he was. He started to hit Lu Yizhou's chest, again and again. "You're the one who decided to run away, you're the one who left me behind! What are you coming back for, huh?!"

Professor Zhao's thought was very simple. Since Lu Yizhou already chose to separate, then he should just find somewhere safe and hide there obediently! It would be much better than rushing out and fighting a horde of zombies! At least… At least he would be safe this way! Much to his indignation, Professor Zhao realized that the little grudge he harbored deep inside his heart had been dispelled due to the overwhelming fear of losing Lu Yizhou. He could go whenever he wished, he could take whatever he wanted… but he had to be alive! There was nothing more important than staying alive!

Zhao Bolin still felt lingering fear from the previous incident, making his scalp numb. He could not imagine what he would do if Lu Yizhou was infected. If only… If only there was an antidote which could cure the virus…

Lu Yizhou caught his wrist gently and cupped his face. The warmth from the other's skin caused Zhao Bolin's eyes to widen. With a movement so gentle like handling a fragile porcelain, Lu Yizhou wiped the tears that had escaped from the corner of Zhao Bolin's eyes.

There were so many emotions swirling in those silver eyes, so deep and intoxicating they were that Zhao Bolin subconsciously held his breath. The place where Lu Yizhou held him was burning and Zhao Bolin could not help but rake his eyes all over the other's features.

This incident had really scared him so much that his inhibition had flown off somewhere. He traced every crook and cranny of Lu Yizhou's face as if it was the last time he would be able to do it; the soft strands of hair covering his forehead, his straight eyebrows, the gentle curve of his eyes, the slope of his nose and down until Professor Zhao's eyes were fixed on Student Lu's thin lips.

If Student Lu was not smiling, those lips would be pressed so tightly that it deterred people from approaching him. But only in front of Zhao Bolin… only in front of him would Lu Yizhou show such a gentle and affectionate smile. Those lips looked redder than usual, making Student Lu's features even more bewitching and charming.

Those lips moved, "I won't leave you behind."

Zhao Bolin's nose felt sour for some reason. "I know, idiot…"

Lu Yizhou's thumb on his cheek was so gentle that Zhao Bolin felt his temperature rising steadily. However, he did not want to avoid this. Not this time. Not when Lu Yizhou's face was slowly inching closer. The tip of their noses brushed against each other and Zhao Bolin's lashes fluttered shut. This close, he could sense the breath Lu Yizhou exhaled.

However, for some reason, the warm breath seemed to gradually become cold. Not only that, there was a distinct scent of blood…
