The seven students had an identical stupefied look on their faces, it was quite comical to see. What did Professor Zhao just say? Rather than choosing a biology student who had more relevant skills on the field, he… he chose a new student from literature major instead??0

"P–Prof, are you sure?"

"He's not very suitable… right?"

Li Zhu recovered from his shock. He looked at his teacher and Lu Yizhou back and forth with a frown on his face. Amidst the buzz of confusion, his voice sounded especially loud and clear, filled with reasonable sense. "Teacher, I beg you to reconsider. Creating an antidote is not simple, you need an assistant who will be helpful to you. Classmate Lu is from Literature Major, not to mention analyzing data, he can't even help you with preparing the sample. Teacher, are you sure you want to choose him?"

Everyone nodded in agreement with Li Zhu.

In actuality, what Li Zhu said was not only for Zhao Bolin to hear but also for the entire Special Forces' soldiers. They were desperate enough for the antidote to resort to threat; no doubt this matter was of grave importance to them. Now, knowing that the assistant Zhao Bolin chose was not even a newbie but a completely irrelevant student, would they only sit still and watch? No, they would definitely intervene. By then, Professor Zhao would have no choice but to choose him!

As he expected, Commander Yang's brows furrowed deeply and even the other soldiers had an incredulous look on their faces. "Professor Zhao," the commander said with a hint of anger in his tone. "I understand that you're unwilling to do this but this is not a matter to be trifled with! I can tolerate it if you want to pull your students in, but why would you choose someone from another major?!"

Alas, Zhao Bolin was precisely someone who never played by rules. He had a disdainful look on his gaze as he retorted, "Do I need to explain myself to you? Certainly I have my own reason for doing so." His sharp gaze shifted to Li Zhu and the latter shrunk his neck, feeling as though his scheme had been exposed to the daylight. However, Professor Zhao did not even address him. His eyes merely stopped on Li Zhu for a split second before continuing to the others. "I know you're all unreconciled by my decision. Creating an antidote is a big deal and as a future researcher, you're eager to involve yourself in it. I understand but… I'm sorry, my point still stands."

Zhao Bolin crossed his arms and declared haughtily to the commander, "I only have these two conditions. As long as you agree to it, then I will immediately start. Otherwise…" he shrugged nonchalantly. "Just kill me then. It's not like I am afraid of death."

The students were exasperated yet helpless at the same time. They had been spending these past few days with the amicable Professor Zhao and forgot that this was just how the man was. He was willful and a certified freak down to the core. No one could ever understand what he was thinking.

Commander Yang pressed his lips together, forcibly curbing his temper in. "Very well. I will relay your conditions to the higher-ups. Please wait a moment." He then went to a corner, pulled out his walkie-talkie and spoke to the other person on the line with a low voice.

All the while, the soldiers were gazing at Zhao Bolin like he was some sort of insane researcher. Of course, Zhao Bolin took no notes of it, he harrumphed and finally turned to Lu Yizhou, finding that the man was already looking at him with a faint smile on his eyes.

Zhao Bolin was flustered for a split second before he hastily regained his composure. He lifted his chin, looking so high-and-mighty like a prideful little kitten. "What? Do you have something to say?"

Lu Yizhou shook his head quietly, amused. He had been searching for a way to separate Li Zhu from Zhao Bolin, the further the better; this way, Li Zhu would not come up with any shenanigans to betray him. However, Li Zhu was a crucial member in Zhao Bolin's team, making it difficult for Lu Yizhou to commence his plans. Who knew that Zhao Bolin would directly send Li Zhu away with a few short sentences? Was this the so-called tacit understanding between husband and wife?

Zhao Bolin could not read anything from Lu Yizhou's expression, but he had a hunch that the student was thinking about something inappropriate again. His skin warmed up a bit but he vehemently resisted the urge to blush. "Don't you have something to ask me? For example, why am I choosing you out of all people?"

Lu Yizhou indulgently played along with him. [Why?]

Zhao Bolin harrumphed in response. The words 'not telling you' was written across his forehead in bold capital letters. Lu Yizhou was helpless yet amused at the same time. If he did not want to tell in the first place, then what was the bait for? It just made him want to bully a certain someone until his eyes reddened and filled with unshed tears…

Commander Yang soon came back with a tight expression on his face. "The government has agreed with your conditions. But in exchange, they have also sent their own demand. They want the antidote to be created within half a year."

Everything was progressing according to the original plot, save from the existence of Lu Yizhou in Professor Zhao's team. Toward the government's unreasonable demand, Zhao Bolin let out a scornful laugh. "When the time comes, let's all go to hell eh?"

Commander Yang's face sank as he comprehended the underlying meaning behind Zhao Bolin's words but in the end, he blankly replied, "I am only relaying a message from the higher-ups."

The situation was quickly settled. Li Zhu's insistent protest fell into deaf ears. Looking at his unreconciled appearance as he was escorted out by the soldiers, Lu Yizhou had a strong hunch that the protagonist would not give up just like that. He frowned. Why was Li Zhu so adamant in joining Zhao Bolin's research team? Was there any hidden plot he was not aware of?

Well at least for now, Li Zhu would not be able to make any splash. Not to mention that the two protagonists would be separated by miles away. This was the best outcome Lu Yizhou could have thought of.

Li Zhu and the other students were evacuated to the military basecamp whereas Commander Yang Tengfei and his soldiers ended up creating a temporary stronghold on the fourth floor of Biology Building. 

Just like this, the two protagonists' fated encounter was single handedly destroyed by Professor Zhao's callousness. Let alone cultivating feelings, both of them did not even exchange a single glance with each other.

After the crowd was evacuated, the fifth floor of the Biology Building was left only for Zhao Bolin and Lu Yizhou.

The sun quickly set in the horizon and the majestic golden sunset sprinkled in through the glass window. The soldiers had brought emergency food with them which was infinitely better than plain bread. Zhao Bolin, who was starting to get sick of bread, devoured it ravenously whereas Lu Yizhou chose to nibble on the chocolate bread instead. He found that other food tasted like sand on his tongue and only the sweetness of chocolate could soothe his undead side's appetite.

After eating, Zhao Bolin beckoned him toward the laboratory. 

All this while, the students had only glimpsed into Zhao Bolin's office whereas the side door leading to the laboratory remained tightly shut. Right now Zhao Bolin took out a bunch of keys from his inner pocket and inserted one into the keyhole, except before he could open the door, he suddenly halted and asked without looking back, 

"Do you have something to confess, Student Lu?"
