9.24 Want To Eat Me?
At long last, the cat was finally out of the bag…2
Lu Yizhou silently let out a sigh. He ignored Zhao Bolin's shock and directly plucked the man out of the dangerous zone around him. With his long legs, he stepped out of the circle of sharp glasses and gently lowered Zhao Bolin to the mahogany table. Then he grabbed the roll of gauze near his feet and wiped his blood haphazardly with it.
This was the first time Lu Yizhou had been injured ever since he became a zombie king. Who knew what kind of effect his blood would have on ordinary humans? Better safe than sorry, he did not want to wake up only to find his lover turning into a mindless zombie…
As he cleaned the blood off his body, he had his back facing Zhao Bolin. Even then, he could vividly imagine the dazed look on Zhao Bolin's beautiful face. As he expected, when he turned around, he found Zhao Bolin staring at him blankly as though his three views had been turned upside down. He was shocked silly to the point where he ignored the fact that he had just been carried so inappropriately in Lu Yizhou's arms just now.
"You…" The distinguished Professor Zhao could confidently claim that he had experimented on half of the creatures on Earth whereas the other half was already stored in his mind. After all, he was someone dabbled in genetic recombination. It was natural for him to be fascinated by the features that humans did not have, such as the ability to breathe underwater and the fast regeneration rate… However, even then he was unaware of any creatures who could heal themselves as fast as Lu Yizhou! An absurd guess surfaced in his mind. "Are you… the product of their experiment? Did they really succeed in combining human's gene with other creatures?"
Of course, that would be the first thought for a typical researcher like Zhao Bolin. Even until the world collapsed, perhaps he wouldn't have guessed that the man who was standing in front of him was the zombie king.
Lu Yizhou put on a helpless look and shook his head. After he cleaned himself up, he moved his hands. [Professor Zhao, are you afraid of zombies?]
Zhao Bolin frowned and he blurted out, "Of course, who wouldn't be scared by those undead creatures?"
[Then… what if I say that I am a zombie too?] Lu Yizhou signed while keeping a tight watch on the changes of Zhao Bolin's expression. He saw blankness in the man's eyes as he processed Lu Yizhou's words, and then came incredulity and disbelief…
Zhao Bolin was smart. Just with that little hint, he already had an inkling as to what kind of identity Lu Yizhou had. Catching Lu Yizhou off guard, he swiftly jumped down from the table, rushed to the door and poked his head out. Only when he confirmed nobody was attracted by the chaos did he finally let out a sigh of relief and locked the door. He beckoned for Lu Yizhou to follow him and together, they entered the laboratory.
This was the first time Lu Yizhou had entered Zhao Bolin's private laboratory and there was only one word in his mind: chaos.
The laboratory was vast and every corner was illuminated by bright light. Alas, there were so many little trinkets and stacks of documents on the tables, chairs and floor until there was nowhere to stand. The entire space was giving off the impression of a mad scientist's abode. No wonder Zhao Bolin had never invited anyone inside…
Perhaps sensing Lu Yizhou's thoughts, Zhao Bolin revealed an embarrassed look and coughed lightly. "I… will clean up later. I haven't received any visitors before so…" he finished his sentence with a shrug.
Even with the chaos, he stepped over the mess with ease and headed toward the experiment table. It was significantly messier there, filled with test tubes, beaker glasses, a high-tech microscope and a large monitor densely packed with running data. Lu Yizhou carefully followed his steps. All the while, Zhao Bolin threw out one warning after another. "Be careful, there's a bottle of corrosive liquid there. Oh! Don't step on that, it's my precious treasure! Alright, slow down, slow down. Come here."
Lu Yizhou had a complicated look on his face when he arrived by Zhao Bolin's side. Even though the distance was not far, he felt like he had braved through storms of knives and flames. Speechlessly, he recalled that Zhao Bolin had slept here last night. In this kind of place, how the hell did he manage to sleep? And where??
Once again, Zhao Bolin let out a little cough and gently moved the tools on the table away, making a space for Lu Yizhou to sit on. Then he put on his white coat and switched on the surgical lamp. The height of the lamp was just suitable to shine right above Lu Yizhou's head. Almost in an instant, he felt like a fish on the chopping board ready to be poked and prodded…
"Alright, let's begin." Zhao Bolin had an excited glint on his eyes that was not there before, one could say it was almost maniacal. "You said you're a zombie?"
Lu Yizhou nodded, slightly helpless yet amused at the same time. If he did not remember wrong, the person in front of him just admitted a few moments ago that he was afraid of zombies…
"Wait a minute, let's go back to the beginning. So you're bitten by a zombie but you still retain your consciousness? Have your genes mutated?" Zhao Bolin suddenly thought of something and looked at Lu Yizhou suspiciously. "Wait… if you're a zombie then why did the other zombies attack you?"
Lu Yizhou had no choice but to admit honestly, [I told them to attack me.]
Zhao Bolin's eyes widened in astonishment. "So you can give them an order?"
Lu Yizhou hummed in agreement. Next, Zhao Bolin asked more detailed questions like to what extent could he compel the zombies to obey him. Lu Yizhou had no choice but to give him a direct demonstration. He brought him to the window, ordered a few zombies idling down there to line up and gave them a ninety degrees bow. Some of their balance was off and hence, the sharp movement caused them to topple head first to the ground with a splat. The whole scene was quite funny and ridiculous.
Zhao Bolin's eyes were wide in astonishment. He had never expected that a day would come when he received a bunch of zombies' respect…
[Satisfied?] Lu Yizhou asked with mirth in his eyes.
"Nope, not yet." Professor Zhao admitted shamelessly. "I still have a few questions to ask." When Lu Yizhou showed no impatience and even gave him a gesture to go ahead, Zhao Bolin did not stand on ceremony anymore and asked tentatively, "Then why… do you not look like a zombie?"
This time, Lu Yizhou chuckled. [Oh I do. It's just…]
Zhao Bolin gulped. "What…?"
Lu Yizhou's eyes were so gentle yet there was something within that told Zhao Bolin he was not joking in the slightest. [I don't want you to be terrified of me.]
His courage being questioned, the courageous Professor Zhao could not help but stand straighter to meet the challenge, slightly affronted. "Do I look like I am afraid, Zombie Lu?"
Lu Yizhou gazed at him for one long moment before he said, [I have warned you.]
Upon receiving Zhao Bolin's disdainful harrumph, Lu Yizhou took a few steps away from him, closed his eyes and brought his zombie instinct to the forefront of his mind. The change was instant. All of his senses were magnified such as Zhao Bolin's gasp echoed loud and clear in his ears. He could even count how many humans were downstairs, brimming with fresh blood and vitality. Taking a deep breath, Lu Yizhou finally opened his eyes to find Zhao Bolin staring shell-shocked at him. He could not help but show a wry smile. [I've told you so…]
He knew what he looked like. He had seen it once in the mirror before. Now that his zombie instinct surfaced, Lu Yizhou could not help the growl rising from his throat at the scent of a human in front of him. He embedded his nails deeply into his palm, forcing himself to stay put. He had been deliberately ignoring his hunger and trying his hardest to act like a normal human but now… he could not deny himself anymore.
He was hungry— starving — and Zhao Bolin was the most delicious little thing he had ever smelled. So delicious that his mouth watered.
Zhao Bolin startled at the sudden animalistic growl that came from him. Aside from that, he did not show any emotions other than fascination, bewilderment and awe. No fear. No disgust.
Upon realizing that, tension gradually loosened from Lu Yizhou's body and he shoved his hands into his pocket. Then he raised his brows in inquiry, asking silently, [How about this?]
He thought Zhao Bolin would conclude his little interrogation up to this point but it turned out he had underestimated the extent Professor Zhao would go in pursuit of knowledge.
He walked, one step after another, toward Lu Yizhou until they were almost toe to toe. This close, Lu Yizhou could clearly hear the flow of blood under Zhao Bolin's skin. His nose twitched at the alluring scent the other exuded… so unlike any other delicacy he had tasted before. Unfortunately, a certain professor did not seem to sense his deepening gaze and proceeded to intrude on his personal space.
Goodness… Lu Yizhou closed his eyes and tried to close off his senses as well on the way. It was certain now. He was going insane. Zhao Bolin smelled so good… so warm and full of vitality. His undead instinct was clamoring for him to take this little life for himself, to devour it and make it his own. He could almost imagine how exquisite Zhao Bolin would taste. If he could take a bite… If he could take just one bite, he was sure that he would get addicted and not want to taste anyone else again…
Zhao Bolin reached out to wipe the saliva dripping out of the corner of his lips. "Zombie Lu…" he tilted his head in innocent inquiry. "Do you want to eat me?"
