10.6 Are You The Boss?
1Lu Yizhou was silent for a while before he suddenly asked, "Can I get a room by myself?"
The warden's face instantly darkened. "If you want a private room, then get your ass to the nearest hotel! Do you think this prison is your grandfather's property?! Go, go, go inside! Just looking at your face makes me want to puke!" Following that, the warden pulled the door with more force than necessary, shoved Lu Yizhou in and slammed the door shut on his face. Then he turned away with a disdainful harrumph. "Who does he think he is? To ask for a room… ha!"
Lu Yizhou let out a helpless sigh. He had already expected that he would not be able to act freely here, but to think that he would end up being the protagonist's cellmate…
To begin with, Lu Yizhou's identity was so inconsequential that he was not even mentioned as Christian's cellmate. The original plot had started with Percy's perspective and followed through his hardships here. It was not until a few months later that he managed to meet Christian. What had happened between Christian and Leonard during this timeline, nobody knew.
With nothing better to do, Lu Yizhou turned to inspect his room for the days to come.
The four walls were made of solid brick. Lu Yizhou ran the tip of his fingers across it and grimaced in disgust at how damp it was. The only source of light came from the yellow lightbulb above his head. One step away from him was a bunk bed. There were traces of living on the bottom bunk so the upper bunk could only belong to Lu Yizhou.
Fortunately, Christian was the protagonist. It meant he fulfilled the basic criteria: handsome, clean and neat. There was no weird odor of human excretion in the cell and Lu Yizhou even found a precious bar of soap on the sink. However, there was one crucial thing that made him speechless.
It was the bathroom.
No, it could not even be called a bathroom because it had no door at all. It was only a small extension of space enough to accomodate a squatting toilet. Lu Yizhou could not even fully open his arms inside. What the fuck… so they had to wash, change clothes, shit and pee in front of each other's eyes from now on?! Were criminals not human beings who deserved privacy?!
Veins bulged on his forehead and he had to take a few steadying breaths to calm himself.
He had been through nine worlds, and every identity of his was decent in wealth. No, he might even be considered as living comfortably without worry. This time, Lu Yizhou had finally encountered a stumbling block in his temporary career as a transmigrator. He was not a clean freak nor did he have obsessive-compulsive disorder, but to ask him to share this cell with another person and live like a pig… he was afraid that he could not do that!
At that moment, the loud ding of the elevator echoed loud and clear amidst the dready space, followed by a hoard of footsteps and faint conversation. It seemed like the veteran prisoners had come back from lunch.
"Hey, Christian, is it true that you will finally have a cellmate this time?"
"Yeah, the warden told me."
"Shit, so that's real! And you didn't even say anything in protest? What? Is it a pretty boy this time?"
The voices were getting closer and closer and in the next second, the door behind Lu Yizhou swung open. A few people were crowding around the door and craned their neck forward, trying to get a glimpse of the person inside.
The man who conversed with Christian earlier let out a wolf whistle as soon as his eyes landed on Lu Yizhou. "Goddamnit, he's really a pretty boy! No wonder you accept the arrangement so calmly! Have you known it ahead of time?!"
Lu Yizhou calmly swept his eyes around the people outside before landing on the tall and handsome man who stood out among all. Truly worthy of being called a protagonist. Even through such a distance, Lu Yizhou could already sense the low pressure and bloodlust emanated from the other. Christian had short buzz cut black hair and dark dangerous eyes that could intimidate others with one glance. The prisoner's uniform looked like it was tailor made for him as it hugged his broad shoulders perfectly. He stood in a casual pose, but it gave off the impression that he was the leader of these people whereas everyone was only his lackey.
If it was any other people, then they would have already cowered in the face of these entourage. However, Lu Yizhou's expressions hardly changed at all. They were merely humans after all. Were they scarier than zombies, flesh-eating werewolves or vengeful ghosts?
As those people were sizing him up with lecherous gazes, he was also carefully scrutinizing them, especially Christian. When all was said and done, this was the person who would help Percy get through the hidden traps and alarms along the floors until they got to Z-level. His strength should not be underestimated.
"What are you looking at?!"
"Huh, this newcomer's gut is quite big…"
"Should we teach him a lesson so that he will know who's the real power here?"
"He's really pretty hehe… It's really rare for our S-level to welcome this kind of rare beauty. Fuck, it's been so long since I have done it with someone!"
Christian cut off the lecherous babbles with a cold and domineering tone, "What's your name?"
The question was undoubtedly directed toward Lu Yizhou. However, instead of answering obediently like everyone expected him to, Lu Yizhou suddenly threw out a provoking question. "Are you the boss here?"
It was said with a tone so leisurely not unlike someone who was asking for direction.
Nonetheless, the effect on this group of people was akin to cold water splashed into a pan of sizzling oil. Each of them had a 'reputation' here; compared to other prisoners in the higher level, they were much more influential and powerful. There were countless little brothers who wanted to hug their thighs and they had also forcibly taken some. They might have given Christian some face and acted cordial in front of him, but secretly all of them disdained him in their heart. It was still unknown who would win if they were to fight it right there and then.
And yet, this pretty boy was able to tell who had more power in one glance?! Had they gotten too polite with Christian that he thought he could exert dominance here?!
The friendly gazes toward Christian subtly changed. It was hard to tell whether someone would seek trouble with him one of these days.
Once he realized what was happening, Christian's face immediately darkened and a faint hostility emerged in his eyes when he stared at Lu Yizhou. This man was not simple at all, his instinct told him. However, he had been here for two years and knew how the power balance worked. He immediately refuted Lu Yizhou's words. "Boss? Heh… naïve newbie, you might not know it but we have no boss here. Everyone is equal. But if you want to call someone boss…" Something flashed in his eyes and the corner of his lips tilted into a mirthless smile. "...then it should be the one detained in Z-level?"
Instantly, the atmosphere became stagnant and the sound of several people sucking a deep breath could be heard loud and clear. Faintly, they could even feel a sudden gust of cold wind blowing by as if something was being summoned.
"Z-level?" Lu Yizhou maintained an appropriate amount of curiosity even though his heart was beating like a drum. As he had guessed, Christian really had something up his sleeves. Perhaps, he might even know something that was not described in the original plot! "Who's in there?"
