10.11 Lu 'Wingman' Yizhou
As it turned out, life in a prison was truly colorful. Aside from activities like taking a walk, reading books in the library and watching television together which were mandatory, there was also a series of different labors they could choose from such as washing clothes and dishes, cooking, cutting wood, tailoring clothes, farming, and gardening. 2
From the aforementioned labors, cutting wood, farming and gardening ranked number one on the list of most popular labors for prisoners. Because the spot for each labor was limited, only the strongest would be able to choose first and the weak could only receive the leftovers. Washing clothes and dishes, as well as cooking was still okay, because if you messed up, then there would be the staff who would take care of it in the end.
However, who would want to go to the tailor team?!
For this bunch of rough men, going to the tailor team was akin to forcing them to do embroidery. It was utterly humiliating! It was a task created only for sissies!
Everyone had been nervous when choosing because they thought that a strong contender had appeared to fight the spot with them. Unexpectedly, Lu Yizhou did not react at all even after the spot for cooking was filled! Everyone was happy at the outcome. They did not bother to understand why Lu Yizhou was willing to go to the tailor team, he was a madman after all! Who knew if he had some special hobbies aside from eating flesh?
These people did not even try to hide their glee and what they were thinking was apparent in one glance. Lu Yizhou took a deep breath and curbed his anger.
…Forget it. It's not like he could not do it. It's just tailoring clothes, nothing difficult.
In the end, the three newcomers were put in the tailor team — the other two were cautious enough not to fight with the veterans. Just as the group was going to separate, a voice suddenly spoke up, "Wait."
Everyone turned to see Christian pointing at one of the newcomers. "You, exchange with me." Christian had been choosing wood cutting ever since he entered the prison and nobody was able to fight him for it. And now… he was willing to go to the tailor team?!
The S-level prisoners looked at Christian as if he had grown two heads. Then they saw that Christian's gaze was focused on Lu Yizhou from the start to the end. All of a sudden, understanding dawned on them. Holy shit, this person's taste was really heavy!
The newcomer's eyes lit up and he nodded hastily, "Sure, sure! Thank you, brother!"
Lu Yizhou narrowed his eyes. It was clear from the prisoners' behavior that Christian had never taken the initiative to go to the tailor team before. And judging from his insistent gaze, it seemed like it had something to do with Lu Yizhou. The right course of action was to ask why Christian would do something so unusual like this. However, Lu Yizhou was truly not curious. The protagonist could dance in front of him for all he cared. Thus, he broke eye contact and turned away to stand on the line.
At the warden's urge, the crowd dispersed and only the four of them remained. Because these three people — Lu Yizhou, Christian and the newcomer — had never been to the tailor team's working area before, the warden led the way for them. The entire journey was spent in strained silence and for some inexplicable reason, the tension was so heavy that it was suffocating (only for the newcomer).
"Don't you have something to ask?" Christian suddenly said in a casual tone.
However, no one answered him.
He took a glance to the side and saw that Lu Yizhou was lost in his own thoughts and did not even deign to give him a glance. No matter how good Christian's temper was, he would still lose his patience after being dismissed and ignored throughout the day. He lifted his long leg and kicked the wall beside Lu Yizhou, blocking the latter from going forward. He gritted out irritably, "I'm talking to you, damn it!"
Christian had no idea what was wrong with him either. He had been in this place for two years and had long since grown indifferent to whatever transpired here. People died due to their own foolishness or they were simply too weak, as simple as that. If it was the usual him, he would not even bother to give a newcomer a glance but… when he saw Lu Yizhou quietly enduring his pain and stubbornly tried not to make a sound earlier, unexpectedly… his heart was moved a bit…
Of course, Lu Yizhou was not aware of the turmoil he had set in Christian's heart at all. He simply thought that this person was so annoying.
He was quietly going through the surveillance footage and trying to analyze his own strange behavior when his train of thoughts were interrupted halfway. Naturally, his mood was not pleasant. "Get lost…" he warned in a hostile tone. "...or you'd better forget how to walk with two legs from today on."
Behind them, the newcomer was shivering in fear at the two bigshot's confrontation. Why should he be trapped in the middle of this storm?!
For a while, Lu Yizhou and Christian were glaring at each other, and the air was charged with high-voltage electricity and gunpowder.
Until the warden's irritated voice drifted over, "What the hell are you doing dilly-dallying there? Do you want to get punished for being late?!"
Only then did Christian tear his gaze away with a harrumph, but not before throwing a threat, "This is not over."
Lu Yizhou was practically brimming with irritation right now. He only wanted to live in peace here, found Pandora and brought him out of this world. But why did this protagonist have to bother him again and again?!
As it turned out, his bad luck did not end there. As they arrived in the tailor room, Lu Yizhou discovered that a bunch of people were already there. They were from all kinds of levels, C, D, E, F, G… and one of them was none other than another protagonist, Percy Snyder!
Lu Yizhou kneaded his temple as he felt an oncoming headache. He should have seen this coming. Percy was weak and thus, he naturally had no choice but to go to the tailor team whom nobody wanted. This division of labor was actually a chance for prisoners from different levels to communicate with each other. However, because Christian had always chosen wood cutting, they did not meet until months later when Percy finally got a spot after fighting tooth and nail with the others.
But now though…
Thanks to Lu 'wingman' Yizhou, the two protagonists' first encounter was forcibly brought forward a few months earlier!
