10.41 Hurry Up!
With a numb expression, Christian went to get a metal bar for himself. Percy also wanted to get his own, however his strength was simply not enough to break it off like Christian and Lu Yizhou did. 0
The latter treated him like air, so Percy could only stare pitifully at the former, wishing that Christian would be a little softhearted.
Clicking his tongue, Christian walked over and pulled out a door and a metal bar for him. "No one will save you except yourself, so prepare yourself well."
Percy gasped when Christian threw those things over to him. His hand shook just to lift the metal door and in the end, he had to hold onto the handle with both hands in order to drag it along! Damn it, this turned out to be so heavy!!
He glanced at the carefree Pandora and felt resentful for the very first time. How could he lift it up so easily? And moreover, he was clearly much stronger than Percy, so why did he have to be protected but Percy could only fight for himself?!
The noble young master temperament in him had not completely subsided yet. After all, it had only been a few days since he arrived here and the torment he suffered so far was not comparable at all to the original plot. As such, Percy still retained the outlook that he should be the one protected by everyone because he was the weakest. However, he was afraid of the other three so he could only swallow the grievance by himself.
"Which floor have you seen the corpses on?" Lu Yizhou asked.
"The common area. Or to be exact, the cafeteria." Christian replied. "I guess it was lunch time when the tragedy happened. But after all those movements, I am not certain where they are now."
Lu Yizhou nodded and asked 666 inside his mind. [Have you deactivated all of the alarms and traps in this place?]
[666: Hmph, who do you think 666 is, Host?! 666 is the most brilliant, handsome and sophisticated system. Of course these ugly and low-level programs can't hold 666 back at all!]
[En, good job.] Lu Yizhou was not stingy in his praise. Not giving 666 any time to bask in the glory, he asked again, [Where are the corpses now? Pull up the surveillance footage.]
[666: …]
[666: Host, you're just trying to trick 666 to work more, aren't you…] The system felt like it had glimpsed upon the hideous truth of enslavement behind these seemingly sweet praises.
[...You're thinking too much.]
[666: Then why did you pause for so long before answering?! QAQ]
Still sobbing, the pitiful 666 was forced by its heartless Host to shuffle through hundreds of surveillance footage. Of course, it was not difficult for 666 at all. As Lu Yizhou pressed on the button of the elevator, it already concluded,
[666: Yep, Christian is right. They are all in the common area. It's like they are confined there and unable to get out. Um, the sight is quite scary… but compared to the previous simulation, this is nothing at all~]
[666: Oh my Admin God, 666 didn't expect that there would come a day when 666 is no longer afraid to see this kind of thing! Since when did 666 become so awesome and awe-inspiring?!]
Lu Yizhou simply couldn't care less about the boasting system. As the elevator door opened, he let Pandora enter first before turning to the two protagonists. "We will go to the common area."
Percy's breath hitched on his throat and the words of protest were already hanging on the tip of his tongue. Directly go to the common area? Was he crazy?! Wait, no, this person's nickname was Leonard the Mad Cannibal, after all. It was no wonder that he could come up with this insane idea. He turned to Christian expectantly and saw the man stepping into the elevator without any complaint whatsoever.
Percy: "...!" What the hell is wrong with all of you?! You're insane!!
Percy felt like yanking on his hair and screamed on top of his lungs. Alas, he realized that he would stand no chance against these people at all. Either go forward or… stay here and succumb to fate. Percy only had these two choices in front of him. Gritting his teeth, Percy forced his shaking legs to move into the elevator. No matter what, he had to follow these people to survive!
Because of the two large metal doors, the space inside the elevator became a little cramped. Percy stuck himself to the corner and desperately refused to be the one closest to the door no matter what. He knew his own strength very well. As soon as the elevator door opened, then they would be swarmed by corpses. By then, even if he had nine lives in this lifetime, it still would not be enough to save him!
"Here is the plan," Lu Yizhou broke the silence as he relayed the strategy in his mind. "Judging from the ruckus earlier, all the corpses should already be concentrated in the hallway. As soon as the door opens, we will have to face hundreds of them. The goal is not to annihilate them all. Don't waste your energy before we go out of the building. They have all become mindless corpses similar to zombies, however it is better because they have no virus to affect you with. Even if you're bitten, it will only hurt a bit. If you can't kill them, then push them out as much as you can."
Christian gave him a sideways glance, curious. "Why do we have to push them out?"
"It's simple," Lu Yizhou said. "They are bound to the prison, so as long as we can push them out, then they will definitely disintegrate."
Percy was shocked when he heard that. Was it really so simple?
The corner of Christian's lips tilted into a provoking smirk. "And how exactly do you know that, newbie?" He specifically emphasized on the last word. He had been here for two years but he did not even know this! Not to mention Lu Yizhou had not encountered those corpses yet. And suddenly, he discovered their weakness just like that? He would believe that pigs could fly before he trusted this person's words!
Lu Yizhou raised a brow. He could guess what Christian was thinking. Without even batting an eyelid, he threw the responsibility to his lover. "Pandora told me just now."
Pandora, who was leaning against Lu Yizhou and almost dozing off: ?
Unfortunately, before Pandora could demand an explanation for this vicious slander, the elevator issued a soft ding. The four people inside tensed up immediately as they gripped their weapons tighter.
The elevator door was opening!
As soon as the scene outside unfolded in front of Lu Yizhou's eyes, he finally understood that 'purgatory on Earth' was not simply a metaphor.
The floor was flooded in crimson liquid and the suffocating stench of blood assailed his nose. There were bodies… tens… hundreds of them… strewn all over the floor. Some still had their bodies intact while the others were missing one limb or two, and the aforementioned limb could be found a few meters away from them. Aside from the prisoners' uniform that was stained with blood, there was one similarity between all of them.
Their expression still retained the malice, hatred and fear they had at the last moment of their lives. Their eyes were wide open, bloodshot, filled with unwillingness and grievance. Percy was right to say that they looked like they had just died. This vivid expression was as if they could spring up at any moment and continue to hack each other — no, not as if. They could really come alive at any moment!
Christian took the lead to come out first simply because he was closest to the door. Lu Yizhou pulled Pandora behind him and whispered into his ear, "Stay close to me and be careful."
As for Percy… Percy had no one to rely on by himself. He was so scared that his teeth were chattering and tears flooding his eyes, yet he still forced himself to stand upright. At least, he had mentally prepared himself just now and would not scream mindlessly like he did earlier.
Their position was Christian, Percy, Pandora, then Lu Yizhou who was guarding the rear. Because the corpses had not been triggered, they stuck themselves to the wall and tried to be as silent as possible. In the middle of the night, only the disgusting squelch of their shoes stepping into sticky puddles of blood as well as their own breathing could be heard.
On the front, Christian suddenly halted in his tracks.
Percy was caught off guard and almost slammed into the man's back. Trembling, he asked, "W–What's wrong?"
"This is the end of the common area." Christian pointed at the metal electronic door in front of him which could only be opened either by identity card or iris identification. "Beyond the door is the warden and staff area, and then the administrative offices."
From the corner of his eyes, Lu Yizhou caught the corpses' fingers twitching as if they were going to jump up at any moment. Ill premonition arose in his heart. Without missing a beat, he barked an order to Christian, "Push open the door now! It isn't locked!"
As soon as his sentence fell, the corpses behind him let out an inhumane growl as if they had been offended. The closest one to Lu Yizhou had immediately lunged toward him with malicious eyes and blood still streaming down their face. Lu Yizhou brandished his metal bar and stabbed it through the corpse's throat. With the corpse's momentum as well as Lu Yizhou's strength itself, the metal bar went so deep that it directly pierced through the back. The corpse stopped with their mouth gaping open, intense pain distorting their face.
Lu Yizhou saw five or seven more from his peripheral vision and his eyebrows twitched violently. They were not actually troublesome at all. However, their strength lay in their huge numbers and going against them would most probably bury Lu Yizhou to death! He hollered impatiently, "Hurry up!"
Christian needed not to be told twice. Even though he did not know where Lu Yizhou got the confidence from, he still slammed his shoulders against the metal door and to his utter surprise, it actually opened! Christian did not have the time to be shocked as he rushed forward and conveniently yanked the weak Percy along. "Come with me!"
"Lu Yizhou!" Pandora was keeping the corpses at an arm's length as he slowly retreated to the door.
Lu Yizhou directed a kick on the corpse's chest and the metal bar was pulled out of their throat, spewing out a fountain of blood. A few droplets had even splashed on his face.
With a frosty look, he dealt with the ones crowding against Pandora and stabbed through their foreheads with the metal bar in his hand. Blood and brain matters splattered on the ground as the corpses fell one after another. Even though they were clearly dead, they still showed a pained and tormented look when Lu Yizhou killed them for a second time.
"Go!" He shouted at Pandora. "I will be right behind you!"
"...!" Pandora subconsciously wanted to stay behind and go together with him. However, he knew that the best method right now was to run to the door as soon as possible and keep the corpses here. Gritting his teeth, he retreated carefully whilst keeping the shield up. Once in a while, he also hacked the corpses with the sharp edges of the door.
Pandora arrived at the door and cried out anxiously, "Lu Yizhou!"
"Coming!" Lu Yizhou was a bit swarmed right now. There were at least twenty corpses surrounding him, and more were still pushing from behind. However, at least they were not zombies so there would be no real harm here.
He retreated a step, and the corpses pushed forward two steps. Sweat slid down Lu Yizhou's face. Damn it! Even if they were not zombies, their behavior clearly resembled one! They used their hands to grip onto Lu Yizhou's clothes, hands and body, trying to drag him deeper into the middle of the crowd. If he really fell down here, it was expected that he would not be able to escape alive!
The distance between him and the door was still a few meters away. Fortunately, the corridor was not very wide so Lu Yizhou could prevent the corpses from surrounding him from all sides.
The veins on his forehead throbbed. With a burst of strength, his body exploded in power as he kicked the nearest corpse toward the crowd behind them! The corpse's movement was dull and clumsy. Due to Lu Yizhou's sudden attack, they staggered and fell down one after another like dominoes. Taking advantage of these few short seconds, Lu Yizhou dashed madly toward the door, tugged Pandora away and slammed the door closed!
He leaned against the door to catch his breath. "Are you okay?" He asked Pandora.
"I'm fine, but you—" Pandora scanned him with an anxious look.
To be honest, Lu Yizhou looked quite like a mess right now. His pristine uniform had been splattered with a lot of blood and the corpses' manic movements had torn the fabric in a few places. Coupled with the blood on his face, it was like he had trudged through hell and back. Lu Yizhou had gotten accustomed to his F-level luck. Other people could escape without a scratch on their bodies, but he had to fight to keep his clothes intact.
He straightened up and wiped the blood on his cheek. "It's nothing," he offered Pandora a reassuring smile. Stretching one hand toward his lover, he said, "Let's go. I will take you out of this place."
