10.45 Don't Give Up

Lu Yizhou was startled. He had never heard his lover curse so zealously before, at least not in this simulation. He turned to find Pandora standing in front of the computers with an irritated look on his face. However, before he could walk over and ask what was happening, suddenly there was a static buzz from the communicator that had always been silent.0

"Red warning! I repeat, red warning! A prisoner has—ugh!" There was a terrifying sound of solid fist punching flesh, followed by a choked sound issued by the guard. 

However, that one second warning was enough to alert everyone else because their communicators were linked to each other in the same system. In the next moment, a loud siren pierced through the tranquil night and the watchtower's light turned dazzling red. Before he could be defeated, the guard had pressed on the emergency button on the communicator to activate the lockdown program.

Pandora could not help but curse again, frustrated. "Damn it! My power is not strong enough…"

It was impossible that people inside the building did not wake up after such a huge ruckus. Adding on to the fact that Pandora was outside right now, the effect of his power had been reduced by a large portion. Through the screen, Lu Yizhou saw the wardens pouring out of the building, holding a remote and a gun in each of their hands. It was a familiar remote used to activate the chip inside their body.

Fortunately, 666 had deactivated the power source in the chip. The warden pressed repeatedly on the remote to no avail. The electric current they had been expecting did not arrive, instead the prisoners still looked as fit as a fiddle as they rushed toward the gate. 

Cursing, they lifted their guns and aimed at Christian who was dragging Percy's collar like he was a baby chick. "Stop!" They hollered. "If you don't stop, then we will shoot!"

How could Christian stop when he had gone this far?! He knew the fate that would await him once he was caught would be no different than death. It was better to bet on his life and try to obtain freedom! Nonetheless, he could not resist cursing at Percy. If not for him, then all of this mess would not have happened! "You fucking idiot! If I am shot, then I will throw you to them first!"

"N–No, please…!" Tears and snots were running down Percy's face as he clung to Christian's arm in desperation. "I didn't do it on purpose! Please… don't abandon me!" 

He swore that he was telling the truth! Percy just wanted to help Christian to deal with the guards. He was uncomfortable with only standing aside uselessly while watching Christian do all the work. It made him feel too much like a burden. As such, he tried to knock down the nearest guard to him using the metal bar. But who could have guessed that due to the sweat on his palm, the metal bar would slip out of his hand and startle the guard awake?! He really did not do it on purpose!!

"Fucking idiot…" Christian ground his teeth whilst heading straight to the gate. "If you do something stupid one more time, then I will be the one to kill you with my own hands!"

Through the prison ground, they still had to bypass three sets of high voltage fences. Christian could not help but curse his bad luck once again. How the fuck were they supposed to escape from this place?!

The people chasing after Christian were too many and all of them were holding a gun. There were a few times when the bullets almost brushed past Christian's vital organs, making him break out in cold sweat. 

Under this tense and desperate moment, there was a sudden sharp whistle by his ear followed by a surprised cry behind him.

Christian glanced back and saw one of the wardens had been shot right between his brows. His eyes were still wide open in shock as he crashed to the ground, surprising the people around him. It was a very remarkable marksmanship. And judging from the direction where the bullets came from… it was the watchtower! Christian's eyes lit up. Lu Yizhou was there!

In the next moment, more bullets flew around and hit the wardens one after another. Those people gradually realized that the watchtower had been seized and a sniper was hiding there! Gritting their teeth, they could only scatter like a flock of chicken trying to find a place to hide. Alas, where would they find a shelter amidst the vast and empty prison ground? 

The watchtower was originally designed to be in the most suitable place to observe the ground from a high vantage so that the snipers could directly shoot the rebellious prisoners without any hindrance. Yet now, the tables had been turned on them! It was simply infuriating!

Wardens and guards collapsed one after another under the domineering might of the sniper rifle, splattering blood all over the ground. And the more amazing thing was, the bullet directly pierced through their foreheads each time. It was a very clean and neat headshot! 

Up in the watchtower, the man was focused on looking into the scope and pressing the trigger once in a while. Seeing such a serious appearance on Lu Yizhou's face had Pandora, who was watching the thrilling show on the side, feeling all hot and tingly. At first he was still admiring Lu Yizhou's accurate marksmanship and curiously studied how he did it, yet gradually his attention was drawn to the shooter himself.

Goodness… how could this human be so cool and impossibly breathtaking? 

Bending over the rifle, the beautiful lines of Lu Yizhou's muscles were stretched taut on the thin prison uniform. Light breeze ruffled his ash-colored hair and the single minded attention on his silver eyes were so damn sexy. The dark color of the gun contrasted sharply with his lean and calloused fingers. Those were clearly the same fingers which had touched him with utmost tenderness, yet right now, they became a deadly weapon which controlled humans' lives. 

Unable to help it anymore, Pandora draped his body bonelessly over Lu Yizhou's back and wrapped his arms around Lu Yizhou's powerful waist. He nuzzled his heated face into the man's broad back and said in a muffled voice, "Lu Yizhou…"

Lu Yizhou's fingers jerked. He almost misfired by accident and hit the protagonist. It was a close call… Pausing slightly, Lu Yizhou asked gently, "What's wrong, sweetheart?"

"Nothing. It's just…" Pandora murmured in a low voice. "After we leave this place, what will happen?"

The sudden question caused Lu Yizhou to go silent. What would happen? He had no idea either, but… "No matter what, I will always be by your side."

Pandora's eyes flew open slightly, not expecting such an answer from Lu Yizhou. However, when he thought back about it, this person had always been staying by his side without fail. This time too, he would definitely keep his words. Pandora was unable to hold back the grin on his face as he tightened his grip around Lu Yizhou. "Then I will hold you to it."

Lu Yizhou let out a brief chuckle. "Sure."

He saw through the scope that all the wardens and guards had run back into the prison building to seek cover. Throwing the rifle away, he turned in Pandora's embrace and smiled at him. It was a firm and reassuring smile belonging to a person who would not hesitate no matter what was thrown into his way. 

This person was looking at him with the same gentle gaze as usual, yet Pandora could not help but feel that there was a tinge of sadness and heartache within. It was as if Lu Yizhou was conveying thousands of words to him through that gaze alone. Pandora had no idea why his chest tightened when he saw this kind of smile on Lu Yizhou's face.

Then he heard Lu Yizhou say, "Promise me one thing."

Pandora blinked in confusion.

"No matter what happens, don't give up." Lu Yizhou slowly cupped his face and looked deeply into his eyes. Pandora was stunned by the intensity and gravity Lu Yizhou fixed him with. "The world is still beautiful. It doesn't contain evil alone. One day… One day, I will bring you to see all the beauty this world has to offer. Until then…" his voice turned slightly raspy. "Promise me that you will not give up."

Lu Yizhou did not know whether he was saying it to his lover or to himself. He held Pandora's gaze firmly, his voice almost pleading. "Promise me, sweetheart…"

In a daze, Pandora replied, "Okay… I promise." He did not actually understand what Lu Yizhou was saying, but there was a compelling power in those eyes that forced him to agree. He did not want to see this person sad and for that, he was willing to say and do anything.

A small smile ticked on the corner of his lips. "Good." 

Before Pandora could ask why Lu Yizhou suddenly said something like that, Lu Yizhou shifted his gaze away to look far into the distance. "Let's go," he said. "It's time for us to leave this place." 

Again, he offered his hand toward Pandora.

And as always, Pandora took it without any hesitation.

Holding his lover's waist, Lu Yizhou used his skill 'Levitation' to bypass the high voltage fences and flew straight toward the gate. 

Out of Nightingale Prison — the box that had trapped his lover for decades.
