He Finally Wakes Up!
"Head Administrator!"0
The person's agitated shout could be heard echoing outside, sounding so shrill as if chased by a ghost.
Dr. Feng's brows twitched violently in response. A hologram screen was floating in front of him, packed with dense rolling data. The light blue glow illuminated his glasses and made his complexion look even paler than usual. He acted as if he heard nothing and his fingers continued to fly over the keyboard to enter another string of codes.
Bang! The door was slammed open and a man in disheveled clothes stumbled in. It was as if he had hastily put them on in the middle of the night to come to the institute building. Even after he entered the messy office, he still jogged in place as if it was the only way to release all the excess energy inside him.
"Head Administrator Feng, Head Adminis—"
"Shut up," Dr. Feng finally could not rein in his temper anymore. "If you only want to shout, then shout as much as you like before coming in."
"N–No…" The man cowered a bit at the sight of Dr. Feng's vicious scowl. However, when he recalled his original purpose for coming here, he instantly got rejuvenated. Voice shaking due to excitement and apprehension, he exclaimed, "Patient 666… Lu Yizhou, he—"
Dr. Feng whipped his head up, alarmed. "What happened to him?"
"Well, you told us to inform you if there's any changes in his vitals. Just now, I received the news that he was waking up! He finally wakes up!! But…" The man's excited grin faded away only to be replaced with a troubled look.
"But what?!" Dr. Feng wished he could shake this man so he would just blurt out everything in one breath. Why the hell would he stop midway? It was so damn infuriating!
After a second pause, the man finally said, "...he refused to let anyone come into the room except for you—"
Even before the man finished his sentence, Dr. Feng already stood up abruptly. With a wave of his hand, the holographic screen and keyboard vanished with a poof. He grabbed his outer coat and marched straight toward the door. When he saw the man still standing there with a dumbfounded look on his face, Dr. Feng barked out with an impatient tone. "What are you waiting for?! Let's go!"
Dr. Feng was in charge of creating the source data of the main system and assisted the Technical Department to build the simulations. However, just as his title implied, he was mainly responsible for running and overseeing the project as a whole. Dealing with the patients after they successfully came out of the simulator had never been his scope of responsibility.
But from the start, he had always made an exception for patient 666, Lu Yizhou.
Fifteen minutes later, his hover car stopped in front of the brightly lit hospital. He tossed the key to the nauseated man beside him, then dashed into the building.
Along the way, the nurses and doctors were shocked to see him at such a late time. However before they could react and greet him, Dr. Feng had already vanished from their sight lightning-fast.
This was not the first time he had come to visit Lu Yizhou. At least every fifteen or twenty days, he would make time amid his busy schedule to drop by and ensure that the young man's vitals were normal. As such, he easily maneuvered his way through the hospital toward Lu Yizhou's room.
When he turned into the corridor, he saw a few familiar faces sitting outside. They were the members of the Post-Simulator Department. Their main job was to ensure that the patients' were well after waking up and settled any problems for them. After all, the government's promise that they would grant a wish for every successful patient had not been a lie.
These people were the ones who would be responsible for dealing with every aftermath that came with it. The man who had barged into Dr. Feng's office earlier had also been one of the members of this department.
"Head Administrator!" They stood up upon seeing him with a relieved look on their faces. "You're here! The patient is—"
"I know," Dr. Feng walked toward them briskly. "I heard about the situation on my way here. How is he?"
"Overall, his physical and mental stats are good, but…" they showed a helpless look. "He rejected everyone and insisted on seeing you."
Dr. Feng had already expected this. After all, he owed Lu Yizhou a lot of explanation. No wonder the man wished to see him first upon waking up. Nodding, he told the department members, "It's been hard on you. You may go back first. It's okay, leave the patient to me."
As if they had long been waiting to hear these words from him, the department members immediately nodded like chicken pecking rice and dispersed from the corridor in less than five seconds, leaving Dr. Feng alone by his lonesome.
Dr. Feng: "..."
The head administrator sighed and kneaded his forehead for a while. Seriously… exactly what had Lu Yizhou done for them to react like this? Turning to the closed door, he took a deep breath as if steeling himself for what might come, put on a solemn and professional expression on his face, then pressed the 'open' button.
From the first time he saw Lu Yizhou up until now, the impression he had of the young man had never changed. For him, Lu Yizhou was akin to a lone pine tree standing amidst the heavy land of snow. Strong, detached yet looked very lonely at the same time.
However, when he met Lu Yizhou's calm silver eyes this time, Dr. Feng actually felt a subtle change he could not pinpoint for exact. It caused him to pause for a split second before entering the room.
"Congratulations for waking up, Lu Yizhou." There was a lot Dr. Feng wanted to say, yet he still chose to say this sentence upon their first real meeting. "You are truly our most troublesome patient. On average, people only took twenty days to one month to complete the simulator. If they're fast, they can even finish it in ten days. But you…" he let out a little snort, amused yet helpless at the same time. "You took more than three months. Everyone is very nervous on your behalf."
Lu Yizhou still had a sickly hue to his complexion, and his figure was very thin due to the prolonged coma. When he spoke, his voice contained a trace of huskiness as he had not used his vocal cord for a long time. It gave him an air of fragility that could soften people's hearts.
Yet his question was extremely brazen, "When can I be discharged?"
Dr. Feng: "..."
