Final Closure
As expected, Zeke heaved a drawn-out sigh. There was no way that guy could die so easily.0
He could even survive under Lu Yizhou's sudden launch of the exploding crystal ball. Even a cockroach was not as tenacious as he was. Perhaps because of the former Crown Prince's gene in his body, he could somehow sense that the man had not died yet. As such, he was not too surprised by Dr. Feng's revelation.
As early as when the researchers created exploding crystal balls all those years ago, they had also created life-saving capsules as a countermeasure. Even the material of military warships could not hold out against the crystal ball, but it was different from life-saving capsules. But in the end, these two items failed to be mass produced.
For the former, it was because the explosive attack of the crystal ball was too fearsome. Fearing that it would be inappropriately used as a weapon of mass destruction, it ended up being banned and stored in the Imperial Palace's treasure room. As for the latter, it was actually quite simple and ironic – the material needed to produce life-saving capsules was too rare. In the end, not only were there less than fifty of them in the entire world, it could also only hold one person per capsule.
The supply could not even cover the top 1% of the richest, most resourceful people in the Capital Planet. It could be predicted how much chaos would break out once people started to fight for it.
In the end, they were sold in the black market at an exorbitant price and people who encountered them did not only need wealth, but also terrifying luck.
The King, as the monarch who stood above all, had the exclusive privilege to own one for himself. But Zeke recalled how he had not used it before he was killed by Lu Yizhou, otherwise his ending would have been different now. No wonder the former Crown Prince could take possession of that. He must have returned to the Imperial Palace after the royal assasination to take whatever he could from the treasure room.
Zeke did not have any opinion about the former Crown Prince's survival. Whether that guy died or not, it did not have anything to do with him. It had been this way since the start, and it would also be like this until the end.
However, seeing that he fell silent as though in deep contemplation, Dr. Feng misunderstood that he was feeling troubled. He wrecked his brain for a moment, then gritted out with much difficulty. "If… If you want to see him, Dr. Xiao and I can think of something."
Zeke was taken aback for a second before he let out a brief chuckle, amused. "What do I need to see him for? It's not like he wants to see me either."
The way he answered it so easily without sparing a second of thought left Dr. Feng at an utter loss of words. For some inexplicable reason, he felt like Zeke did not change much after his illness was cured – at least for other people. It was only in front of Lu Yizhou would he express deep emotions like never before.
"Well, that's good." Dr. Feng shrugged in relief. "Now that he has been caught by the military, it won't be so easy for him to escape anymore. I don't know what they will do to him. But at the very least, he will be kept under surveillance for the next few years."
Zeke thought that this discussion had ended after Dr. Feng switched the topic to their recovery plan – the most important was how it was absolutely forbidden for them to do anything strenuous for at least three months. Zeke had rolled his eyes at that. It was not his fault, but Lu Yizhou was just too sexy and charming, okay? How was he supposed to resist when this man was sauntering in front of him all day long looking like a delicious piece of snack? If Dr. Feng wanted to blame someone, then he should blame Lu Yizhou!
And that's why he was utterly caught off guard when Lu Yizhou asked him on the same evening, after Dr. Feng was called back to the research institute. "Are you sure?"
Zeke was doing little exercises on the couch to slowly regain his mobility. He did not hear Lu Yizhou well. "Hmm?" He raised his head, puzzled.
Lu Yizhou reached out to wipe the sweat on his forehead. His tone was careful as he asked, "Are you sure you don't want to see him?" He did not elaborate who 'he' was, but Zeke instantly realized who he was talking about.
Zeke blinked, surprised. Lu Yizhou had not said anything when he gave Dr. Feng an answer earlier. He had thought that this man held no opinion at all. As it turned out, Lu Yizhou was just waiting until they were all alone to talk. The corner of Zeke's lips curled and he was ready to give the same answer – really, just the mere notion of meeting that repulsive brother of his already made his skin crawl – yet as soon as he looked into Lu Yizhou's eyes, as soon as he saw those beautiful silver eyes that he had grown so fond of, all words were suddenly lost on the tip of his tongue.
For the very first time, Zeke felt for himself the penetrating power Lu Yizhou's gaze held, which could see through his deepest thoughts and secrets.
"I know you're not this kind of person," Lu Yizhou remarked gently as he mushed Zeke's cheeks within his warm and broad palms. His tone was like an elder trying to coax a child. "You may think that you're indifferent to his life or death, but I can tell that it's not true. Don't you want to have a final closure of that part of your life, sweetheart? Otherwise, you will—"
"I know, I know. Stop talking." Zeke slapped a hand over Lu Yizhou's mouth with an exasperated groan. A helpless smile tugged on the corner of his lips. "Goodness, since when did you become such a smooth talker? Where is the stupid assassin who can stay silent for five days to one week straight?"
He could feel Lu Yizhou's lips curving into a smile. Damn beautiful bastard. The man grasped his wrist and planted little pecks on his knuckles. "You have brought him out of that nightmare. He has been born anew."
That dark period of Lu Yizhou's life would always be a hidden knife inside Zeke's heart. Every time he recalled how this person had been enduring everything all alone, his heart would twist in pain and he so badly wished that he could transform into a human so that he could wrap his arms around Lu Yizhou and tell him that everything would be fine, that Zeke would make him happy in the future. Alas, everything was already in the past and he had no way to change it.
Just like Lu Yizhou said, he had walked out of the shadow and stood under the light, welcoming the first ray of sunshine into his life…
Zeke shook himself out of the melancholic mood and playfully pushed Lu Yizhou's face away, laughing. "Alright, I will meet him. What you said is right…" his eyes glittered in hope for the new beginning of his life. "...I need this final closure."
It's also time for him to step out of his shadow and stand beside Lu Yizhou – together, under the light.
