My Salvation

Lu Yizhou glanced down at Zeke who was clearly distressed for him and the corner of his lips ticked upward. His smile stretched wider and wider as if the first ray of sunshine had finally pierced through the dark clouds after a prolonged winter. He knew that he was a sinner, he had a lot of innocent lives in his hands and he had no way to change his past. He was more than willing to pay for this sin in the afterlife.0

But now… he was done with staying in the shadows. He wanted to embrace this star and own it for himself. And as long as he was still breathing, he would protect its radiance so that it would become the brightest in the entire galaxy.

"I love you…" he mumbled, his voice muffled as it was said into Zeke's hair.

Zeke abruptly froze. He had just been mulling over how Lu Yizhou was severely downplaying the event from back then and wanted to find some way to peel the full answer from his mouth, when he suddenly heard Lu Yizhou say this. In an instant, his line of thought broke and he could not remember what he was brooding over anymore. Still stunned, he drew back and saw Lu Yizhou staring down at him with a gaze so gentle and emotional that it struck a chord in his heart. Zeke had never seen this kind of look on him before – a perfectly serene and tranquil look as if he had totally put down the burden on his shoulders. As if he had been set free…

"I love you…" he uttered again, softer this time as he brought Zeke's hand to his lips and kissed his ring. "I don't care where you come from nor what your identity is. For me, Zeke, you are my salvation…"

A beautiful smile bloomed on Zeke's lips as tears pooled on his eyes, making his golden eyes look especially dazzling. He, too, repeated what Lu Yizhou had just said. "I love you…" he gazed into Lu Yizhou's eyes and poured out all the tender feelings in his heart. "I don't care where you come from nor what your identity is. For me, Lu Yizhou, you are my salvation…" 

In that freezing winter, if not for Lu Yizhou, Zeke would have died in the little kitten's body and he would have no chance of waking up again in reality.

In that freezing winter, if not for Zeke, if not for his warmth that sustained him, Lu Yizhou would have given up on everything – his heart, his life, his soul.

Throughout their entire life, they had been a villain in other people's eyes. One was a replacement that was not supposed to exist, whereas the other was a cold-blooded assassin who had reaped countless lives. Perhaps it might be better for this world if they did not exist. Yet they became each other's saving grace, an indispensable and unique existence that could not be replaced by anything in this world.

Zeke wiped the tears on his face and sniffled. "All of a sudden, I miss Bianca so much…"

Lu Yizhou belatedly noticed that they had been sitting here for hours. Nodding, he stood up and offered his hand. "Let's go and fetch our daughter." 

Zeke stared at his hand for a second before slipping his hand into it and held it tightly. "En!" He nodded with a brilliant smile on his face.

When they drove back to the research institute, the sky already started to turn dark. These past few days, aside from recuperating, they had been planning to spend the rest of their lives away from the Capital Planet – away from this place which hid too many painful memories. Now it was ready and all they needed to do was bid their farewell. 

As Zeke was crossing through the lobby with Lu Yizhou hand-in-hand, the elevator dinged open and a small shadow pounced forward right onto him. "Mom– I mean, Papa!"

"Oof…!" Zeke caught the little bundle of soft fur and could not help laughing. The cat robot in his arms resembled the real thing with its huge moist eyes, silky white fur and long tail, except one thing… it was too expressive. In one glance, people could tell that it was no ordinary cat. Fortunately everyone in the research institute had gotten used to such a sight so they were not surprised anymore.

Bianca was naturally lively, agile and mischievous. At first, she was hesitating whether to use a human robot body or other forms, but then upon careful contemplation, she decided to use a cat – a form that she had grown familiar with. She would be able to climb on her Mom– she meant Papa and Daddy's shoulders every single time, and she would attract more attention with how adorable and unique she was. 

(Don't tell anyone how she had pranked every single person in the research institute to think that she was an ordinary cat only to talk human language all of a sudden. Hehehe~)

"I'm sorry," Zeke bent down to drop a kiss on the cat's head. "Have you been waiting long?"

Bianca nodded, aggrieved. Her silver eyes that were identical to Lu Yizhou were brimming with tears. "I almost thought that you two have forgotten me and left me behind! Look at what time it is now!" When she took a closer look at Zeke's eyes that looked faintly swollen, her fur immediately exploded in rage. "W–What happened? Who makes you cry?! Tell me and I will go and beat them up!"

"Pfft…" 

Bianca turned to the person who had just laughed and asked in disbelief. "Daddy… did you just laugh at me?"

"No." Lu Yizhou stepped forward and stroked Bianca's head with his knuckles. It was so comfortable that the cat melted in Zeke's arms like a pool of liquid, purring like a loud motor engine. There were traces of mirth in Lu Yizhou's eyes that could not be concealed. "I was just thinking… you're really your Papa's child. Both of you are too similar to each other."

"Hush!" Zeke jabbed an elbow to his side, blushing, as he realized what Lu Yizhou was talking about. When he was trapped in that kitten's body, he also liked to get angry and threw temper tantrums like this. Cough, come to think of it, they were really similar…

Zeke cleared his throat to clear the embarrassing memory from his mind. Then, he caught sight of Dr. Feng and Dr. Xiao who were watching them from afar and gave them a nod of acknowledgement. Hugging Bianca tighter in his arms, he leaned against Lu Yizhou with his eyes glimmering in happiness, "Are you ready to go to our new home, Bianca?"

Bianca's ears perked up. Her tears evaporated without a trace and were replaced with bright twinkles. Staring at the two men in front of her, she showed a grin and answered loudly, "Yes!"
