Was It Your First Kiss?

Dr. Feng rolled up his sleeves and was ready to fight tooth and nails with his system right here and now. Did Luan think that he was so easy to bully just because he drank too much? A research…? Ha! How dare the system spout such nonsense right to his face? No, he could not let this matter go. He definitely had to make Luan regret ever messing with him!  2

His eyes were blazing with fighting spirit and the vicious aura leaking out of his body smelled thickly of gunpowder. Just then, he heard Luan ask with a blank face, "What are you talking about?"

That one question was akin to a gentle push that deflected the direction of his punch, causing it to go askew. "W–What…" Dr. Feng gaped at him in disbelief. He could not even care of how silly he must have looked right now. What did Luan mean by that question? Last night, everything that had happened between them… it couldn't be a dream, right?

Just as Dr. Feng was counting the possibility that he might hallucinate everything, Luan added with all earnesty, "It really is for research. Thanks to you, now I can be certain that nothing is wrong with my tongue and it works just fine."

It was fortunate that Dr. Feng was not drinking right now, otherwise he would have spurted everything out on Luan's face. "Y–Y–You…" He was so appalled that he could only stutter out that one word. Why hadn't he realized that Luan could be so… shameless?! Luan had clearly eaten his tofu last night, but in the end, he claimed that it was all for research?! Who was he trying to kid?!

"Why are you so angry?" Luan raised a brow. "Or… was it your first kiss?"

"Like hell it was!" Dr. Feng blurted out angrily without even thinking. It took one full second for him to realize what he had said and in an instant, he wished he could go back in time to slap himself.

What's wrong with you, Feng? It was really your first kiss, so why are you lying about it?! Alas, like the saying goes, a gentleman must not take his words back. Dr. Feng swallowed the words hanging on the tip of his tongue and shot Luan with a vicious glare as if he could chop the man into mincemeat with the force of his eyes alone.

What did his first kiss have to do with this man? So what if he was lying?! That's right… he had not done anything wrong at all so there was no need for him to feel guilty about it!

"Oh…" Luan dragged out that one word, sounding as if there was a layer of additional meaning behind it.

Dr. Feng could not read anything from his inscrutable expression, but for some reason… he felt like Luan's sharp gaze could pierce through the flimsy lie he had crafted. In return, it made him feel extremely uncomfortable. He fidgeted in his seat like there were pins and needles under his butt. But much to his surprise, Luan did not chase after the matter and simply brushed it off with two curt sentences, "It's not your first kiss anyway, so why are you being so fussy? It feels good, isn't it?"

Dr. Feng choked on his breath. Damn it, why did he feel like he had lifted a rock only to smash it on his own feet?!

So everything is okay as long as it feels good…?

Looking at Luan's calm and composed face, Dr. Feng was suddenly not certain anymore. Had he become too old already that he could no longer keep up with the current lifestyle? Was it only him who was being too fussy? If he kept this on, would Luan become suspicious and find out that it was his first kiss?! No, he could not let Luan know about this. Absolutely not! For a split second, he wondered why he was so adamant on lying, but then he reasoned that this was all due to the matter of pride!

Luan, this fucker, was clearly very experienced in kissing, he could attest to that. It was already humiliating enough to faint in the middle of the kiss, and if he admitted that it was his first time, how was he supposed to show his face after this?!

Thinking up to here, an unprecedented calmness washed over him, draining away all of the anxiety, agitation and anger. "Well, whatever." He grabbed the cup and downed the water inside, then stood up and ran his fingers through his messy and tangled hair. "I am going to freshen up a bit. Do whatever you want."

Dr. Feng's picture of perfect composure lasted until he closed the door behind him. After that, he hunched his shoulders and rushed down the hallway as if there was a fierce animal chasing after him. That's why he did not realize that as soon as he turned his back, the light in Luan's eyes dimmed, disappointed that he could not get the reaction he wanted.

***

Thanks to his piling work, Dr. Feng could take his mind off the kiss for a while. He was so busy that he was literally spinning around the clock, wishing that he could have three heads and six arms so he could complete double the work with half the effort. Where would he get the time to ponder on his sensational first kiss?

Surprisingly or not, Luan also had not brought it up. Everyday, he would stay in Dr. Feng's office and help him sort the files, acting like a diligent, capable and conscientious assistant. And Luan's presence really felt like having an addition of two head and four arms, so Dr. Feng could not bring it in himself to complain. The two of them tacitly agreed to act like nothing happened at all.

Just like that, a subtle yet tranquil atmosphere was formed between the two of them. It seemed like there was an undercurrent brewing underneath, yet nobody dared to step forward to tear the flimsy cover as if they were adamant on keeping the status quo. At least, Dr. Feng was very satisfied with their current relationship.

As for the aforementioned undercurrent, it included but not limited to the sudden eye contact that caused Dr. Feng's heart to palpitate slightly, or the inadvertent touches of their fingers when they were reaching for the same thing. Whenever it happened, Dr. Feng would cough lightly and gesture for him to go ahead, then swiftly continued to work as if the previous event did not occur at all, leaving a trace of awkwardness in the air.

Still, both of them still pretended to be blind and chose not to say anything about it.

This kind of routine lasted until winter charged head-first toward Capital Planet. The temperature suddenly plunged to the freezing point, causing people to become more lazy and sluggish during work. Outside, the wind whistled sharply like the wail of thousands of vengeful spirits, while inside the office, Dr. Feng was still being the same detached, unapproachable and workaholic Head Administrator as he continued to work.

Until Luan abruptly shot to his feet, catching him off guard.

"What's wrong?" He asked, surprised to find a trace of emotions in Luan's eyes. Anticipation, elation, thrill and… anxiety? Before Dr. Feng could even guess what was going on, Luan suddenly dropped a bomb in his next sentence.

"Prepare yourself. Zachary is waking up soon."
