Zhai Yunsheng did as he was told and taste-tested the dishes for Jian Yiling. He did not mind doing this.1

Anything too salty, spicy, sweet, or fishy could not be given to Jian Yiling to eat.

"Take a bite of this," Zhai Yunsheng said as he picked up a small morsel and placed it on Jian Yiling's plate.

He attempted to assure that Jian Yiling ate a bit of everything. He wanted her to have a balanced diet.

Jian Yichen was accompanying Jian Yiling today. He refused to be outdone by Zhai Yunsheng. Hence, he joined the taste testing group.

"Yiling, have a bite of this. It's very delicious."

After a while, Jian Yiling felt like she was doing absolutely nothing independently. 

Even the empresses and concubines in the past probably did not live such a life.

"I can do it myself," Jian Yiling protested in a small voice.

Even though she was pregnant, she could manage these things by herself. They were clearly underestimating her too much!

"Yiling, don't say that. Pregnancy is a very energy-consuming task. Hence, you need to reduce unnecessary energy consumption," Jian Yichen said with a solemn expression on his face.

Upon hearing this, Jian Yiling obediently nodded her head and accepted their good intentions.

After breakfast, Master Zhai asked his grandson to take Jian Yiling to an art exhibition. 

Based on his research, Master Zhai realized that pregnant women had to go out from time to time. They couldn't stay home every day as a certain amount of social activities was good for their physical and mental health.

Hence, Master Zhai looked into art exhibitions, musical concerts, and plays.

As there was no particularly good symphony performance currently in Beijing, Master Zhai contacted a famous symphony orchestra from abroad to come and perform in Beijing. He paid for all the costs and asked them to reserve two of the best seats. 

This way, Yiling could go and watch the performance whenever she wanted.

Jian Yichen also expressed his approval: "You should definitely go to an art exhibition to look at beautiful things. This way, your future baby will also look beautiful."

Then, Jian Yichen added: "Apparently, your child will grow up to look like who you look at the most when you're pregnant. Yiling, you should look at me more. I'm very beautiful."

Was Jian Yichen that shameless?

Upon hearing this, Master Zhai retorted: "Nonsense, this is Yiling and A Sheng's child. Their child will definitely be incredibly good-looking. After all, his or her parents are incredibly good-looking. Besides, Yiling can look at A Sheng. Why does she need to look at you?"

"Master Zhai, as the saying goes, nephews generally look like their uncles," Jian Yichen explained with a smile on his face.

"But you're technically not even Yiling's brother by blood," Master Zhai ruthlessly replied. 

When he heard this, Jian Yichen sniffled and hid behind Jian Yiling: "Yiling, I also want to be your brother by blood. I'm going to blame my mother for this."

When Jian Yiling looked at Jian Yichen, she couldn't help but laugh.

Sister Yichen was indeed shameless.

When Zhai Yunsheng saw the smile on Jian Yiling's face, a smile also unconsciously appeared on his face.

Even though Jian Yichen was shameless, he was also quite funny. 

Hence, it was good to have him staying by Jian Yiling's side.

Accompanied by her family, Jian Yiling stayed home for the next few months of her pregnancy.

This was the most leisurely and comfortable period of time she ever experienced in her multiple lifetimes.
