Yun Xiangxiang wanted to smack him on the head. He could flirt with her no matter what. "Must the successor be a boy?"

"If it's a daughter, my father and I can't bear to see her suffer."

They were not feudalistic, but it would burden a girl too much to bear the weight of the Song Family. His daughter would have to do everything he was doing now and more. She would have to face the world's dangers and devote all her time to become stronger and better until she was as good as possible.

Song Mian couldn't bear for his daughter to suffer like that. But he could do it to his son. It would be better that way.

"But what if we have no sons?" Nobody could predict the future.

"So be it," Song Mian didn't mind. "The Song Family has a lot of branch families. There will always be great kids among them. I'll just pick one and raise him as my successor."

"Then you can start picking now," Yun Xiangxiang was waiting for him to say this. He said he needed her permission, but he didn't need it.

"No." Song Mian refused.

"Why?" Yun Xiangxiang glared at him.

"If I had not met you, maybe I would start picking one from the branch families in two years."

Song Mian sounded gentle, "I do not plan for my children to repeat my tragic story."

There were two reasons why his father chose to use a surrogate mother. First, he couldn't find any outstanding partner. Second, some people were crazy for power in the family back then. If he chose someone from the branch family, they could use this as an excuse to start a civil war within the family.

But they were all weeded out by his father. With these hidden threats gone, he had more freedom than his father did.

And then he met Yun Xiangxiang. They loved each other. Eventually, they would have kids of their own.

They wouldn't force this burden on their kids if they didn't want to. It didn't matter if they had a son or a daughter. They would give them enough freedom.

But if their child was willing to take on the responsibility of being the head of the family, what should they do if they started raising another child as a successor? How should he get along with their kid?

Yun Xiangxiang felt her face turning hot as Song Mian kept on explaining. "I'll have to hang up now. Be safe out there, and look out for the beasts!"

They would tread into explicit territory if they continued. She was reckless when she talked about having children with him.

Yun Xiangxiang quickly went to bed after ending the call. She seldom dreamed, but for some reason, she dreamt of Song Mian pouncing on her. She woke up because of fright.

Yun Xiangxiang went back home after the morning's filming. She checked everywhere to confirm that the coast was clear.

When she was going to drive into the neighborhood, the automatic recognition system malfunctioned.

Ai Li honked. Someone came out hurriedly from the security office. After fixing the problem, he apologized, "Sorry, Miss Yun. We don't know why this happened."

The staff were sincere. It wasn't their fault anyway. Yun Xiangxiang couldn't fault them. "It's fine. Malfunctions happen all the time."

Qian Yongnian surprised her when she came home. The fake jade he made looked almost the same as her black jadeite.

But they couldn't be put together. The difference could be easily noticed if they did so.

If they were separated though, not even Yun Xiangxiang noticed anything different.

"You're amazing, Grandpa Qian," Yun Xiangxiang praised.

Qian Yongnian played it down. Yun Xiangxiang observed the fake before calling Captain Luo to tell him about this. He asked her to add him on WeChat and sent him the photos of both jades.

Yun Xiangxiang adjusted the light source and the brightness when she shot the dark green jade. They would look even similar after that.

Captain Luo agreed to her plan after he looked at the pictures. The black jadeite was expensive and unsuitable as bait.

"By the way, our staff pulled an all-nighter to watch the unedited footage and found two suspicious faces. I'll send it to you."

The show's crew delivered the footage as fast as they could, and the cops pulled an all-nighter to lock on to the suspects in twenty-four hours.

Yun Xiangxiang clicked into the picture Captain Luo sent. What she saw made her hand tremble.

She quickly called Captain Luo, "I just saw one of the men in the photos!"

It was during the system malfunction just now. The security guards came over to fix it. She knew the one who spoke to her, but the other two were new faces. One of them was the person in the photos he sent her!

They worked too fast. These people found where she lived this way.

If Yun Xiangxiang didn't take a glance during the malfunction, if it wasn't for Captain Luo's speedy work, she might have stepped into danger.

She was afraid to even step out of her door, worried that the first thing to greet her would be the criminal.

"Don't be scared. Their target is jadeite. They wouldn't hurt anyone if they could help it," Captain Luo calmed her down.

They were after money. They might kill in the process, but they were still different from true murderers.

Yun Xiangxiang calmed down quickly, "What should I do now?"

Captain Luo deliberated. "Give them an opening," he said. "We must catch all of them in one fell swoop, or you'll never be at peace."

"I have a lot of people with me. I don't want to put them in danger."

Her entire team was here. Wang Yong, Coco, Zhou Jie, and even Qian Yongnian.

"Don't panic. He shouldn't make a move so soon. I'll ask for the outside residents to help us get our men inside without getting exposed," Captain Luo ended the call. He needed to make a move fast.

Yun Xiangxiang called Song Qian, "Qianqian, come down and fetch me. Don't use the elevator we normally use."

They were used to using the elevator nearest to the door. Yun Xiangxiang was worried they might have been tampered with.

"Oh ho, it seems like they're not total trash after all," Song Qian sneered. Impressive. They infiltrated the building's security team without anyone knowing.

"With how cautious they are, they must have made all their preparations. They probably know our whole schedule. I think the only thing left for them is to check our house."

"We are still safe. Noticing them first gives us an advantage. Pretend you don't know anything. Give the jadeite to me. I'll take care of this.

If they were not going for Yun Xiangxiang, Song Qian wasn't worried. Her first priority was Yun Xiangxiang's safety.
